Chapter Five
{Mason's POV}
One Day Later...
Terra kept her distance in school, and Mason was really glad of that. If you couldn't tell, he wasn't one for attention. Considering that Terra and him were frenemies, they would hang out and enjoy each other's company, but also say rude things, right? Mason wasn't sure on how this would go. They were frenemies, so that meant that a popular girl and a lowlife boy would attract some (or a lot) of attention. That made Mason uncomfortable. Even though they hadn't spoke to each other in a day.
Speaking of the hot-pink-haired-mess...
"Hey," Terra came up beside his locker. It was the end of the day; the bell signalling the end of class. Mason had just opened up his locker when Terra had sneaked up on him. He was still jumpy whenever he heard her voice, so you can guess what happened next.
Yes, you guessed it. King of Clumsy had just dropped all his books.
"Aw man! Don't do that!" Mason leveled a stare at her, while she laughed and pointed. Bending down, he started to pick up his papers and books.
"What's got you so tense?" Terra bent down to help him, her smile still on her face.
"You." Mason answered, stuffing papers in the right books and stacking them on each other. Terra looked at him weirdly. He rolled his eyes. "Must you take everything as a flirtatious comment?" She shrugged.
"Yes." Giving him his books, she grabbed her binder from the floor. Mason stuffed his honor's books in his bag, then put the rest at the bottom of the metal compartment. He grabbed his backpack and swung it over his shoulder, shutting his locker door with his foot.
"So, are you going to follow me home, or what?" Mason questioned, noticing she was following him. "I might have enough room for you and your stuff in my car. But, you know, those two other seats are reserved for my friends Casper the Friendly Ghost and Bloo, my Imaginary Friend."
"I'm fine with sitting on them, then." Terra replied.
"Yeah, considering how many times you've sat on guys." She shot him a look and smacked his face. "Hey!" He yelled.
"Jerk."
"Bitch."
"I'm going to ignore that Supernatural reference." Terra said, stopping in her tracks. Mason sighed, turning around to see what she really wanted. She looked nervous, her hands together, curling and uncurling around themselves. She took a deep breath and spoke quickly; "I want you to come to the mall with me and a couple of my other friends."
"What?" Mason said, astounded that she would ask him.
"Please?"
"Why?"
"Because."
"Why?" Mason pressed. Terra sighed, keep her eyes from his.
"Because there's this party on Friday, and I want to buy things..." He stared at her until she looked at him. Sighing again, this time in frustration, she whispered her response, ducking her head once more. "I also have to go to the bank to get money." Her delicate, perfectly plucked eyebrows were creased. "And...I'm afraid to go inside alone." Gazing up from the floor, her head still down, she looked at Mason. "Go ahead. Say I'm a baby."
But Mason didn't say she was a baby. He was reminded of his past, so he did the unthinkable, hating the fact that the young girl in front of him was scared. He wanted to protect anybody that would have to go through what his sister had to so long ago.
