Chapter Six

{Terra's POV}

I wasn't expecting this. Mason was the kind of guy that stuck to the shadows on every wall; the guy that stayed out of trouble, and drifted away from attention. But he was also tough. He'd saved my life, so he definitely had a caring side. He could be menacing when he wanted, and sweet when he did too. He had many different sides to him.

But I never thought he would be scared.

I just wanted to get him to promise me that he'd go to the party on Friday. I didn't know why I wanted him to be my plus one. I could have taken someone else. And I knew Mason was a guy that kept his promises, no matter what they were. It was a total easy blackmail.

And I think I'm attracted to him.

I saw his eyes widen when I stepped out of the changing room. He wasn't like all those other guys, that would just grin stupidly. He was different. He didn't like me in the way that other guys did. Other guys used me for their sexual needs, and me them.

But I truly think Mason likes me.

He hides it well, but I know it's there. And it shined brightly in his eyes when I saw them as I stepped out in the last dress I got from the racks. He'd gone starstruck. Literally. And, honestly, I knew I had him in the palm of my hand. I knew it. So I went that extra mile, and teased him so he could come with me to the party. He could be my bodyguard...or my date. I didn't know I would go as far as kissing him.

Okay, maybe I did. But it was just a little too tempting when he was completely oblivious to his surroundings.

I don't really look that hot, do I?

I was totally about to do it; just about to kiss him. Until Mei walked up, and ruined the moment. Some times, I think she should get her throat checked, because she's always clearing it like she has a cold, or she has mucus all clogging it up. Truthfully, I'd thought I was alone with Mason. I don't know why, because we were in public in a store with people scrolling the racks of designer dresses as half price.

What was this boy doing to my mind?

Soon after Mei cleared her throat, Mason's eyes jolted open, and he looked horrified. Folks, I'm sure you've felt that way too. Where you probably broke something expensive, and that look of pure horror was on your face. That look isn't really for me, since I break things in the store all the time, and just run away from the scene, inconspicuously. I swear, Mason should get an Oscar.

"I...um...we...just..." Mason couldn't form a full sentence. He's so inhumanely innocent. He's like a five year old. The blush on his face was priceless. It looked like he was practicing for a role as the red apple in the Froot of the Loom commercials. I didn't back away from him, and I didn't want to. But Mason, being the gentleman he is, didn't push me away from him. He just cringed, if he could, even more into the couch.

"Uh huh." Mei gave me a look that said, "I know he's cute, but you shouldn't be reckless." Then came another look, "Don't you dare break his heart." I looked at Mei with a face of confusion. She then gave me a last look (that's the best thing about having a best friend; you know their faces); "You know what I mean. He's not like all those other guys. He's innocent."

"Whatever. I was just asking him if he wanted to go to the party on Friday. He said yes, so-"

"What?" Mason finally met my eyes. When his head turned up, our noses were almost touching. He gulped. "I...didn't say anything." He said, regaining his confidence slowly.

"Yes you did. You said you would go as my date." He looked incredulous at that statement.

"When?" He asked, his brows furrowed. Then he blushed again. If he doesn't stop blushing, I'll tell Cutie-Town that they have a missing citizen.
