Book Two: The Phoenix

Chapter One

I stared at the bird and the bird stared back at me. Whose idea was it to buy me a Phoenix? Oh right, my Sensei’s. And who’s gonna be stuck with cleaning up after him? Oh right, me. It would be completely understandable if this was from my cousin, but for Sensei to be sending this? Well, I guess I should call him Shishou since I had a new actual Sensei in my new team. Shishou didn’t like it when I called him that since he never considered him master-value but hey, he taught me everything I knew and that made him a Shishou to me-whether he actually liked it or not. But for him to go buy me a Phoenix just like that…well, it was unusual. You’ll need it-train with it. It was all the letter mentioned and I had no clue what to do. Oh, and how generous of him for buying me a Guide to Phoenix, the Bird of Fire. I walked over to the kitchen and made some tea. The bird flew right behind me and settled on the counter.

“Ok, rule number one,” I said as I set the pitcher onto the stove, “No shitting in the house.” It just stared at me and re-adjusted himself on the counter-I took it as a maybe. As I was waiting for the water to boil, I flipped through the pages and found out my bird was male. I also found out Phoenix’ were pretty loyal and trustworthy. They could also carry heavier burdens that normal birds. “Great,” I mumbled, “I guess I have a new messenger bird.”

“Yo! You in there?”

“I’m home!”

“Can I come in?”

“Learn to knock first!”

He knocked and I yelled for him to come in. Sasuke Uchiha strode in and the door managed to fall off it’s hinges-again. He adjusted it back but when it didn’t budge, he just simply leant it against the wall to cover the gap.

“You have to get that fixed. And how’d you manage to do that anyway?”

I winced and remembered the reason why the doors were broken and at that moment I was just grateful I erased his memory. But I was afraid that he’ll meat Kabuto again and his memory of that night will come rushing back-I wasn’t that powerful to erase it completely.

“Training accident,” I lied, “My trainings can get pretty intense sometimes.”

“Aha.” When he turned around he came to a sudden halt.

“Umm…it was a gift,” I started explaining why there was a giant red bird in my kitchen, “For the upcoming Chūnin exams. It’s a Phoenix.”

“Oh. Shouldn’t it be a gift after?”

“Tell my Shishou that,” I said and decided to bite my tongue. I set out two cups and poured him some tea.

“Right, that mystery Sensei/Shishou of yours,” he said and smelled the tea. He made a face. “Green tea blend? You trying to get me stoned-again?”

“Here,” I said and pulled out a bottle of Sake. “Now you’re gonna be stoned and drunk.”

“Who sold you that Sake, anyway?”

I shrugged, “It was a gift from my cousin. He says twelve is the legal drinking age.”

“He’s insane.”

“Hey, don’t knock it till you try it.”

“I’m not gonna try it. I came here because Kakashi Sensei wants a training session before the exams.”
