Chapter Nine

“Sorry, no one’s allowed in here.”

“I’ve got a pass.”

I handed him my blue pass and he scanned it critically. Then he returned it without any kind of sign that this was getting to him.

“And can you prove you are Lily Uzumaki?”

“What?”

“Do you have any form of identification proving you are really Lily Uzumaki?”

“Well, of course I do but I don’t have it with me!”

“Then I’m sorry, but I can’t let you in.”

He wasn’t much, so I grabbed him by the collar and pulled him down on my eye level. I had three of the Anbu on my neck as soon as I did it but I didn’t pay much attention to them.

“Listen here, buster, I need to do my job and my job is in there. Now, either you let me in or you’ve got two options: I can beat you into dust or I can pick the calmer way and you’ll have to put up with the Hokage. And I’m not feeling generous today.”

Just then the door behind the man slid open and Kakashi peered out. he said, “There are only two people in this Village who would cause such a ruckus and only one of them would put up with the Anbu.”

“What was I supposed to do?” I said, letting go of the man.

“Well, not everybody knows you by name just yet.” He turned to the others. “It’s ok, I can verify for her.”

I gave the man and the Anbu my death-glares and followed Kakashi into the room. Sasuke was prompt up on the bed, reading something. When he looked up to see what was going on, he narrowed his eyes at me.

“When was the last time the mark activated?” I asked, ignoring his glare and focusing on Kakashi.

“During his battle in the tower. he somehow managed to subside it. I also tried sealing it but was interrupted by Orochimaru.”

“Figures. Has he been on any kind of medication? And did you attempt to seal it again?”

“As far as I’m concerned, just some painkillers. I tried sealing it once more but this is a powerful Mark.”

I dared turn to Sasuke, keeping my voice as doctorly as possible, “I’m gonna need to ask you to remove your shirt.”

“I don’t trust you,” he said with narrow eyes.

I sighed. “I thought we went through this earlier. You can hate me later but now you have to do what I say. And last time you refused to listen to me, thing didn’t end up so well now did they.”

He couldn’t argue that one but he still didn’t pull off his shirt. I went to the edge of the bed to check what the records said. Ok, so it was a bluff, I really had no idea what all those big words really meant but I wanted to seem smart.

“Has anyone taken a look at it yet?” I asked Kakashi.

“Anko was here but she recommended you. She said you know all the details about this.”

“I saw the Mark briefly before collapsing. I think it’s the same as mine but I can’t verify that unless I take a closer look at it.”

“You heard her, Sasuke,” Kakashi said to him. “We’re doing this for your own good.”

“I still don’t trust her!”

“Maybe now would be a good time to tell him,” I pointed out casually.
