Today was a bit gloomy. It was a bit dark outside, even though no clouds ever exist on Kin. A great deal of knowledge stems from the texts we read that come from Earth. No one really knows how they got there, but it has helped us advance our society. Earth has extreme technology and has made achievements far beyond our dreams. But in essence, Kin does not need any of that. Every child that lives here is told a story, a prophecy. It states that one day, our island will come to ruin if everything comes together. Even if it is not on Kin, the prophecy foretells a tragedy that awaits once all things come together. What are these things?

I ran out of my house to go to school. Today was all about history, and not the boring kind. We get to learn more about Kin and its mystical elements. Kids were buzzing around, the people who took the early classes talked about what they learned. Apparently, we're introduced to magic today.
Magic isn't something very new here. It's something we have that Earth doesn't. It's a part of Kin that only we have. We take pride in magic here, because it's something that makes us more advanced than Earth. Although, no one really knows how it works. However, magic doesn't come from within like it's normally depicted. It stems from artifacts, Jyns as they're called. There's a limited number of Jyns, but they're always fascinating to see.
I've only seen one my entire life, a staff. I found it when I was dared to throw rocks into Siea Yami. It slowly bobbed up as the darkness rippled. I went to touch it but it radiated light, almost hot to the touch. When I blinked once more, it was gone. But now, I get to see another Jyn.
"Wu! Did you hear about the Jyn that was presented today?" a friend asked excitedly.
"No, what is it this time?"
"It's a necklace!" she replied.
A necklace? What would that do? The staff I encountered when I was younger seemed to radiate power, but a necklace? It seemed enticing, but I wanted to know more.
I walked into class, and lo and behold, there it was. The necklace was held in a glass case for everyone to see, and the instructor gave us background on how it was found. According to the tale, this necklace was found near a cow at the edge of Kin. It is fabled to have vast protective powers.
We all crowded around it and it started to glow. It went from white to peach and back to white but the strength of the light only grew. Finally, the necklace burst from its encasing, releasing a shock wave that knocked everyone down. Except me. By the time I stopped seeing white, I saw the necklace wrapped around me. I was wearing it. The glowing stopped, but the only thing I felt were the stares of my classmates.
