“Come on, please pick up, please”, I muttered to myself as I listened to to phone on the other end of the line. “Hello, this is Rico Andrea. Sorry I missed your call, please leave a message after the-”

Ugh! I hung up as soon as I heard it go to voice-mail. This was the fourth time this past week he didn't respond. He won't answer my texts, emails, video-chat requests, or phone calls, and I was starting to get worried. Now, don't get me wrong. Last week and all the weeks before we have been communicating. He even sent me a letter once (which I thought was cute). He told me that he missed me and that he wished he could see me in person. He also sent me a more recent picture of him since the one I have is kind of old. I sent him a letter back saying that I missed him more than anything and that I wish we could see each other in person. I also asked him how he really felt about me. I mean, we are really good friends. I'm in love with him, and I think he is in love with me, but I haven't seen him in a year. I'm not sure what his feelings are for me anymore, and I’m pretty sure he thinks the same thing. When I was done writing the letter I realized that he doesn't even have a picture of me yet! So I quick got on my computer, found a good picture of me, and printed it off. Its one of my favorites, a picture from a fall photo-shoot I did just recently. I had just went shopping,so I had brand new clothes and my curly brown hair was accented from the crisp colors of the leaves. I slipped it in the envelope, and mailed it as soon as I could. But that, was a long time ago.

My name is Lindsey, I'm 14, and I met Rico a year ago when the plane I was riding on crash-landed in Sri-Lanka. He had been so sweet, he gave my family a tour of his home town and treated me to a slushy. He had talked and laughed with us like we had known him forever, even though we were just some strangers he found stranded on the beach. Later, he had given me a personal tour. Then we had talked under the cool shade of a palm tree, he put his arm around me, I gazed into his eyes and....

I think we had fallen in love. I sighed and realized that I had been smiling absently the entire time. Yes, I was in love with Rico. Rico Andrea, with his beautiful brown eyes and his naturally tan skin that makes my heart skip a beat every time I see him. That hot summer day when our gazes locked I felt like we were the only people in the world. Every thing was swirling around us as we were standing in our own universe, at the center of it all. Right at that moment, I knew that we were perfectly destined for each other.

But now, I come back to the my main problem. You see, just when I was really getting to know Rico, my dad scheduled an emergency flight out of Sri-Lanka as fast as possible. So I had to leave him. When I broke the news he was so tough, he didn't even cry (which is humiliating because I on the other hand burst into tears). He gave me his phone number and a kiss on the cheek which made it even harder for me to leave, but our plane took off the next morning. So here I am, in New York City, waiting for my love who will never come. I just wish that Rico would burst through the door, and take me away to a place sunny and warm where we can just be together. But it was my brother Caleb who snapped me out of my day dream.
