Chapter 5: Mercury

     (Lani's pov)

      It was currently 9:30. I zipped up my leather jacket and went downstairs. I froze when I saw Lacy Laying on the couch with Noah and Jacob beside her.

"What the heck are you doing here?!" I yelled.

"Calm down, they needed help." Peter said, walking through his bedroom door.

"What makes them think we'd help?!" I asked.

"Hold your horses Lani, She's hurt." Derek said.

"I DONT CARE! I'm going out but when I get back they better be gone." I said. "If you try anything god so help me..."

"Where are you going this late?" Peter asked. "You have school."

"I'm going to help Isaac with his homework." I lied. "I won't be long." I said, sliding the door shut behind me. I ran down the stairs and all the way to the school. I went inside and looked down the halls.

"I'm here!" I yelled.

"You figured out my riddle." The same ribotic voice said. I turned around and saw a man, he had a metal helmet on, and all I could see was his eyes. He had red eyes and claws on his hands. I moved closer and saw Liam standing behind him, he was in werewolf form.

"Here, take him. I don't want him anymore." The man said, pushing Liam toward me. I walked to him and he clawed me. I fell backwards and he picked me up and slammed me into the wall. I fell on the ground, my vision got blurry for a minute, but then it got clear again. I moved to the left right as Liam punched the wall. He made a huge indent in the wall, shattering several bricks. I stood up and backed away, finding my back against the lockers. Liam started walking toward me, and I knew I was probably going to die. He made  it to me and put his face up into mine.

"I'm going to rip your throat out." He said. He brought his hand up to claw me but I caught it. He did the same with the other hand, but a caught it again. I twisted his hands down and kissed him. I held my breath, hoping that after the kiss he would be normal. I pulled away, and saw that he looked like himself again. He turned his head and coughed up a silver Metallic substance.

"Mercury..." I whispered. He looked back up at me, but just then, the man came and injected him with something. I looked at the stuff in the needle. Mercury. Liam fell to the ground, and the man walked away. I bent down and helped him up.

"We need to get you to a hospital, they can extract heavy metals from blood." I said, he nodded weakly. We hobbled down to the hospital and went in. I saw Melissa and immediately went to her.

"Melissa!" I called out. She came to me.

"What happened?"

"Mercury poisioning." I said.

"How much Mercury?"

"A lot..."

"Come on." She said. She led Liam and I into a room.

"You'll have to wait outside, we need real doctors on this. I'm just a nurse." She said. I went and sat in a waiting room near his room for hours, until I fell asleep. I woke up to someone shaking me.

"Lani! Hey go home, you have school tomorrow." Melissa said.

"I don't want to leave him again." I said.

"He'll be okay, I promise. They've gotten almost 25% of the Mercury out already." She said. "Go home and sleep for school."

"A sick day wont kill me..."

"You missed 90% of your first day already. Go home, Go to bed, and go to school. You can visit during your free period." She said.

"Okay, fine." I said, standing up and hugging her. "Thank you."

"No problem."

I walked back home and went in. Peter and Derek were standing right in the doorway.

"You weren't at Isaac's." Peter said, holding up my phone. "We texted him."

"Look I'm sorry I lied, but-"

"It's fine, we listened to your phone call." Derek said. "And Melissa called us."

"So I'm not in trouble...?"

"We keep your phone for three days..." Derek said.

"Okay, fine, Great, goodnight." I said, kissing Derek on the cheek, and walking to my room, notniticing Lacy and the others still on the couch.
