Chapter 11: Derek

(Lani's pov)

     I made it home and stomped through the door.

"What's wrong with you?" Derek asked. I ignored him and walked to Peter's door. I banged as loud as I could.

"PETER OPEN THIS DOOR BEFORE I BREAK IT DOWN!" I screamed. The door flew open, and revealed a still half-asleep Peter.

"Hmm...?" He asked.

"Do you know who the Mercury Man is?!" I squealed.

"The... what?" He asked.

"You know what I'm talking about! Lacy told me it was you so don't play dumb with me!!!" I yelled.

"Who's Lacy? Lani I swear I don't have any clue who this... Mercury... Man is." He said. I listened to his pulse and it was normal... He was telling the truth.

"Oh... Uhh... Sorry..." I said awkwardly. "Goodnight...?"

"Goodnight." He said, Shutting his door.

"Well that was a total fail." Derek said.

"I don't get it..." I said. "Lacy told me it was him."

"Maybe it is him." Derek said.

"What?"

"If he can take control of the others, what's to say something doesn't have ahold of him?"

"But who would make my own Uncle try to murder me?" I asked.

"I don't know..." He said.

"Go to bed, Tomorrows Friday, only one more day of school, then you can watch The Fault In Our Stars in your footie pajamas with ice cream." He said.

"Pfft, I wish." I said, trudging up the spiral stairs to my room.

{The next day}

      I got up and went to school the next morning. I got there and grabbed by books out of my locker then went to my English class. I slept through most of it, then started to my second class. In the hall my phone started ringing. I went into the bathroom and saw that it was Liam.

"Hello?" I said.

"Lani... I don't know where I am..." He whispered, He sounded like he was crying.

"Um... What does it look like?"

"Black, t-theres water... Lani I n-need you to come find me..." He whispered.

"I will, I'm coming." I said. "Wait, Liam why are you whispering?"

"I think there's someone in here with me..." He whispered a little quieter than before.

"You'll be fine I'm on my way okay?" I said, then the line went down.

"Liam...? Liam?!" I said, but all I got in return was beeps. I ran straight out of the school, Not caring that I had just basically skipped class. I caught his scent in front of the High-school, then followed it. I walked a little ways, then it disappeared. I looked around, confused, Until I saw the entrance to the sewers.

'Your really going in there?!' I mentally scolded myself, but I went in anyways.

"Liam?!" I screamed, But the only response I got was my echo.

"Liaam?! Are you down here?!" I asked. Then I heard footsteps behind me. I looked and saw the Mercury Man. He laughed, then attacked me. I managed to swing myself behind him and kick the back side of his knee, causing him to fall. I grabbed his hands and held them together with my claws, Then ripped the helmet off of his head. I almost screamed when I saw who it was.

"DEREK?!?" I squealed.

"What? Hey, where are we?!" He asked. Then I heard the evil, mechanical laugh I had been hearing all along, but it wasn't Derek.

"Derek I need you to get out of here, okay? Go straight back that way, there's a exit on the ceiling, I left it open." I said.

"What if you need help?" He asked.

"I won't, Okay? I promise. Now go, please?"

"Fine." He said. "I'm going." Then he ran off in the direction I showed him.

"Liam?!" I yelled once again, but got no response.

"LIAM?!" I screamed as loud as I could, then something fell farther along in the tunnel. I ran in that direction and saw Liam, His left arm was handcuffed to a pipe and he had duct tape over his mouth. I rushed to him and took the tape off.

"Lani look out!!" He yelled. All of the sudden sonething hit me in the back of the head, then I was out like a light.
