Dawn's POV
Fall time; the worst time of year. Sure it might've been beautiful, but it was also annoying. All the damn leaves raining down on you, all the ladybugs infesting your house to find shelter for the long, cold winter. It was irritating.
It was a normal fall day— sun shining all too brightly into Dawn's eyes. Like most days, she walked to school, but today something felt off. She couldn't tell what, but she knew something was different. A good different, hopefully.
The wind blew causing the pink in her hair to slap her in the face and destroy her not-so-awesome hair style she threw together last minute. The cold of the wind seeping through her sweater made her shiver.
It was too soon before she got to school— god, she hated school. It was the one thing she hated more than humans. Dawn considered everyone outside of her group to be annoying, obnoxious people who weren't worth her time; besides a select few.
Pushing her way through the halls, she made it to her locker. Mondays were the worst. 'How are people so happy this early?' she wondered. People were just too confusing.
While she put in her combination out of memory, she wondered why people get up early just to get to school early— it's just school. Nothing interesting happened before school. It starts at 8:45 people, why would you have to be here at 7:30?!
While Dawn grabbed the black binder for Geo — the second worst class in the school—someone had to hit her in the back while walking by. Turning around Dawn saw none other than a dumb grade nine walking by, the closest person to her. Damn grade nines, they ruin everything. There was a system. You walk on one side of the hallway, not both. It's so simple, yet they just don't understand it. It's just like driving— you can't swerve into whichever lane you feel like that day.
Before she got to yell at the child who hit her back, she saw her friends walking around. Again, the odd feeling came back. What's up with that today? She pondered, never taking her eyes off of her group of friends who were still too happy for a Monday.
Dawn walked across the hall to where they liked to sit, by the band room, and noticed something different. It was too happy, even for a Monday. No one was fighting, no one was making fun of anyone, it was just happiness. There were even a few people who seemed to be radiating happiness. It was weird — too weird.
As she walked over, her eyes narrowed at the group and out of nowhere, someone extremely tall was in her face. Her sudden confusion went away and all that was left was the joy she had seen in the group; only she had a reason. Her thoughts about the group disappeared and she only concentrated on the person in front of her. It was Tyler— her Tyler.
Six months dating and the one person who could make her forget her usual anger-motivated intentions, but today was easily different. She suddenly remembered why she was walking over, and it definitely wasn't to swoon over her boyfriend.
"Hey," he said giving her a quick hug. Too distracted to care, she nodded and started walking with Tyler following on her heels.
She surrounded herself with her friends and the feeling died down a bit, but not completely. Her day was boring as usual and nothing interesting happened until lunch. Everything usually happened at lunch or after school. Getting to see all of her friends was always the best part of each day.
Just before lunch, Luke pulled Dawn aside, looking shy as if he was about to present something for a class. He was usually shy but not like this. Not this bad. What was up with him?
He was alright looking to her. Brown hair that was naturally curly, sticking out everywhere, bigger eyes and so on. She had known him for a while and he was one of her best friends by far.
