Dawns POV
As soon as she was done eating, Dawn was at the doors waiting for Luke's arrival. He should've known this was going to happen. This was Dawn after all.
As soon as Luke walked through the main doors Dawn was questioning him.
"Since when?" Dawn shouted the question at him as soon as the door opened. He jumped as she shouted, clearly not expecting this sudden cry of fury. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? I thought I was your friend! When did it start? Why didn't you say anything sooner? Why-"
And Luke was gone, walking away casually. Dawn ran after him, hair flying behind her in the crowded hall and slapping people in the face. Grabbing his arm, Dawn turned him around before the first flight of stairs, glaring furiously.
"Can you let go? I'm trying to get into the cafeteria and hang out with my friends." Luke said nonchalantly, only making Dawn's fury burn brighter. Luke tried to pull away, but Dawns grip was surprisingly tight.
"I'm trying to have a serious conversation with you, quit running away!" Dawn shouted, earning some curious glances at her.
Luke looked at her and started to walk down the steps, as he went down the few steps Luke said, "And I'm trying to avoid this conversation; talk later?" He asked and walked away from Dawn another time.
Dawn watched him walk away into the cafeteria and followed— determined not to give up. That's not the type of person she was. When Dawn walked into the cafeteria, she saw something else. Something surprising.
She saw Luke standing in the middle of the cafeteria staring at something— or rather someone.
Dawn, being rather nosy, walked behind him and looked where he was looking.
It wasn't an odd scene. It was two girls standing by the recycling bins away from everyone else. It wasn't uncommon. Normally if you wanted to talk to someone privately you would talk there, outside or in most cases for girls, the bathroom.
Why was he staring there? Dawn wondered. She recognized the two girls standing there. She knew quite a few people so it wasn't very weird.
Dawn looked closer and realized that it was Lena and Katrina talking.
Suddenly everything clicked together like a puzzle. It all made sense — Lena was his crush! Dawn decided quickly that she needed to talk to Katrina, in hope for confirmation.
Dawn waited until Luke sat down before walking over to the other girls who seemed to be gossiping. What's wrong with a little more?
"Hey you guys!" Dawn said over enthusiastically. She had to catch their attention some how. "What's new? Who are we talking about?"
Both girls looked up, surprised.
"Dawn! Hi!" Lena squeaked. Her eyes were wide and her face looked especially startled. "Umm nothing, really. We weren't talking about anything!"
Dawn just looked at each girl, one eyebrow raised. "Really, nothing? You suck at lying Lena. Tell me what's really going on. Please? You know I won't stop bugging until I get an answer. Please?"
The two girls looked at one another, each thinking and speaking with their eyes and bodies.
Finally, Lena sighed. "We're talking about crushes. Does that make you happy? Is that a good answer?" Katrina looked surprised that Lena had actually answered at all.
"Yeah, fine. I guess. You're telling me who in science, though." With that, Dawn left with a wink and a wave.
Dawn left the two girls, who seemed relieved she had left. Dawn decided to instead, go over to their groups table.
