Part Three

Sitting on her bed, Beth tries to calm down. She knows she can't get stressed while pregnant. It would most likely cause her to end up like Lori. Her heartbeat is faster than it is when she's running. Daryl, who peeks from around the door, sees Beth go pale. She looks like she's about to pass out. Daryl walks in, but hesitates. Beth looks over and tries to hold back her tears.

"What?" She says quietly as he comes a little bit closer.

"Are you ok?" Daryl leans against the wall across from her bed.

"I'm fine. Don't worry about it, really." Daryl comes over and sits on the bed next to her. She tries to ignore him, but one look of him and she's crying into his neck. Daryl knew he was the problem, but he doesn't know how to fix it. He just wraps his arms around her and rubs small circles on her back.

"Beth. Thank you for what you said to Maggie." Beth looks up from his neck and tries to get him to look at her.

"It was the truth. I was the one who wanted it. I pushed you to it...."

"Beth, it was mutual." Beth looks at Daryl in amazement. She knew Daryl needed to relieve himself of sexual tension, but she never knew if it was just in general like her or if it was because of her.

"What does that mean, exactly?"

"Mm." Beth becomes annoyed. He always tries to get out of telling her how he feels or what he's thinking. She sits up and looks him in the face. He's almost surprised at how fast she moves.

"Can you jus' for once answer a question? I'm tired of trying to figure you out." He gives her a hurt look. She can't help but feel bad for her statement, but she's just being honesty.

"Huh, I guess, from bein' close to ya' for a few weeks that I started feelin' somethin' for ya." He hangs his he'd like he's ashamed. Beth starts to blush. She didn't know that he felt or could have felt that way.

"O...Oh. Really?"

"Yeah. I didn't wanna feel like that, but I couldn't deal with it."

"You said didn't want to feel like that."

"Yeah so?" Daryl looks away from her and stands up.

"Does that mean you do wanna feel like that now?" Beth stands and walks so she's standing in front of him. He doesn't answer her, just stands there staring at his feet. Beth couldn't take him not looking at her. She grabs his face gently and forces him to look at her. "Daryl?"

Without saying anything he leans down and kisses her on the forehead. Beth couldn't take it. She refuses to be kissed as if she's a child. She grabs his chin and makes him kiss her on her lips. At first, he almost pulls away, but he knows it would not only hurt her, but ruin anything that could possibly come from this. Beth finally pulls away and looks at him.

"What kind of answer was that?" She smirks at him and he just laughs.

"It was to get ya to stop talkin'." Beth lets her mouth drop and lightly punches him in his arm. He grabs her wrist and pulls her back into him. He hugs her and she snuggles into his chest. "Seriously though, I want this. I want to take care of you and our... baby. If you'll let me."

Beth can't believe that he actually just said he wanted her. She hugs him tighter.

"Of course I want you! I want you to be apart of this baby's life. You are it's father and I can't do this by myself no matter how hard I try to convince myself and everyone else." Daryl actually smiles at her. He leans down and kisses her on the lips. Then he pulls away from her and starts to leave. "Where are you goin'."

"I have a present for ya'." Beth couldn't believe he actually has a present for her. She sits back on the bed and waits for him to come back. She can't help but feel a little excited and nervous. In a few minutes he's back with his back pack. "I didn't know how far we were gonna be from any other stores or stuff, so I grab all this." He empties the contense of his backpack on her bed.

He had everything from onesies, formula, diapers, bibs, binkies, and everything else a newborn would need. Beth's eyes go wide and jumps up into his arms. She kisses him on the cheek and looks through the baby clothes. He had both boy and girl clothes, which were actually pretty adorable for a redneck picking them out. Daryl just hugs her. He knows she appreciates it, but what else was he supposed to do? Not get her anything?

"Daryl!" A voice from the hallway rings in both their ears and they immediately separate. It was Carol. Beth couldn't help but feel anger towards her. Carol, in Beth's eyes, was not fit to be with Daryl. Sure she was a little bit closer to his age and she was, but Beth hates that Carol thinks she owns him.

"What?" His voice is in neutral territory. He's neither angry nor happy.

"Rick needs to talk to you. Don't you think you two should put some distance between you? Haven't ya both done enough?" Daryl looks like he's about to burst with anger. If it isn't Maggie giving them grief, it was Carol.

"Honestly, I don't think it's ANYBODY'S business." Beth looks at Daryl, who gave off a bit more anger than really expected. He kisses Beth on the lips just to smite Carol a bit, and then walks out of the room and down the hall to Rick's room. Carol just stands there and glares at Beth.

"It's no ones business, but this situation puts everyone in danger." Carol tries to say calmly. Beth tries not to give her an irritated look.

"And I'm sorry about that, but I don't regret it either." She bits a bit at the word either. "And as far as I'm concerned neither does Daryl."

"Girl, I don't get why yer' trying to make this a competition, but you need to realize that I'm jus' concerned for everyone. You included."

"I'm not makin' it a competition, I'm jus' saying that I don't regret this baby. Am I scared? Of course, but I'm gonna do my best to take care of it, whether or not anyone here accepts it or who it's father is." Beth starts putting the baby supplies away and Carol leaves more annoyed than when he came.
