We rushed to the back doors and looked out the glass to see both Malaya and Nathan's bodies on the ground. They were both lifeless. The gun in his hand and bleeding from his head as he held his daughters hand.
He was like my dad in this apocalypse. When I first came to the group he gave me food, cared for me, made me feel safe. He protected me from both the dead and the living. He watched my decisions and he would question if it was right or wrong. He was also like a friend to me. I didn't tell him much but he always seemed to just know. He was the only person in this group that felt like he was part of my family. The only family member I had left and now he's gone.
Lillian slid open the doors and everyone walked out to see them but me. I stood there, frozen, shocked, and my mind was racing. Lillian started to cry in Cody's arms, Tina held Kenton as he sobbed loudly, Jonny and Ross spoke to themselves and I just stood there.
"Vivian?" Gabriel snaked his arm around my shoulders and pulled me to his chest.
I wrapped my arms around his waist and stared outside at the grass. I didn't answer him, my mind was lost in it's own world. I had the same empty feeling as when I lost my own family. Jesse too.
"Wanna go laid down? A lot has happened today." He whispered to me and I nodded.
He pulled back from the hug and grabbed my hand, pulling me away from the glass doors. He lead me upstairs and into the far back room, closing the door behind us.
"I'm sorry about everything." He leaned against the door and crossed his arms as he watched me.
"Shit happens. Ya know...." I laid down on the bed and stared at the wall.
"You should rest awhile. I'm gonna go down and you know...help." He opened the door but I sat up to look at him.
"No. Please stay in here." I ran my fingers through my hair and sighed. "You can't expect me to rest if all I'm thinking about is Nathan's death."
He closed the door and walked over to the bed, laying down beside me. "Is cuddling gonna help?"
I scoffed and laid down, facing him. "No. I'll still think about. I need like... A full on distraction."
"Eh...there's not much we can do. I'm sorry." He shrugged and kissed me for awhile.
"That's good enough." I leaned closer to kiss him.
We kissed for a long while then stopped but kept each other close. It was a good enough distraction for the moment. My body wanted to sleep. Finally sleep. When we woke up we needed to do something. Get somewhere really safe. I've had enough.
***
We slept through the rest of that day. We woke up the next morning and found out they had already buried Malaya and Nathan. I didn't want to see that so I was glad they got it done with. All I was gonna do was stand there and cry.
I had ordered everyone to pack up after we had a few to eat. I didn't know where we were going, but my old idea came to mind.
Just keep moving.
I've had enough with trying to find safe havens and places to stay. I've had enough of gain then losing people. I've had enough with this whole world and the fucked up people in it. All I wanna do is keep moving. They can come or not but that's my plan. Fuck everything else.
"Where we headed?" Jonny asked behind me as I sat on the porch.
"Foward." I answered in a emotionless voice.
"Forward? As in we just keep going and going with no place to just...stay?" He walked up beside me and leaned against the wooden post.
"Yup." I popped the p and looked at him.
"Seems better than any other idea honestly. Every place is always the same." He tapped his fingers on the wood as he looked around.
"Exactly." I stood up straight from my leaning spot and brushed off my shirt.
"I don't know about Tina." He started.
"What about Tina?" I looked at him and crossed my arms across my chest.
"After what just happened with Malaya. She's probably gonna want to find a place to settle with. For Kenton's sake."
I nodded and opened the door to the house. "She can either come or go." I said before walking inside.
Everyone was in the living room, waiting for me to enter. Once I did they all looked up at me to tell them the plan.
"We keep moving. Simple as that. You either come with or go on your own. No debates." I grabbed my bag and weapons, loading my gun.
"Just moving forward? That's not safe. Kenton is gonna n-" Tina started but I cut her off.
"I said what I said." I crossed my arms and stood by the door as everyone else started to get ready.
"You're really gonna let Kenton risk being caught by zombies while walking the streets. We need a place to stay." She argued.
"Then why don't you and Kenton go find a happy place to stay." I walked out of the door with everyone and heard her follow.
"I can't believe you. After all your good ideas you come up with this." She shrieked a little and I looked at her.
"I guess so." I muttered and she glared at me.
"I guess I'll be seeing you as walkers later." She grabbed Kenton's hand and lead him to the car.
I watched them get settled in and once she started the car she looked at me. "Ditto." I waved her off and walked to the other car.
At that she drove off the opposite direction is planned on heading. I sighed. Another-two- gone.
"She was gonna split eventually." Lillian told me and put her hand on my shoulder.
I shrugged her hand off and looked back at her. "I don't feel bad about her leaving if that's what you think."
She nodded and backed away from me as we all got into the car. Jonny and I were in the from, everyone else relaxing in the back. I pointed in the direction I wanted to go and he started the car, driving off.
