Sam sat in her room on Jack's mattress, inhaling his sweet fragrance of fresh fruit. She had a notebook beside her and she began to sketch out a picture of Jack as she waited for Felix to finish fixing up Jack. She took the ink pen and made an ombré of ink for the background. Sam gazed out the window on the rooftop of their small room and watched and listened as the rain panged the window pane. A voice cleared near the door. She heard the ruffle of the carpet and saw Mark appear before her. She narrowed her eyes at him. "What do you want?" Sam spat.
Mark scoffed. "Don't talk to me like that."
She looked at him in his eyes. "Why did you come in here, anyways?"
Mark started up the ladder to where Sam sat, her doodle-book still open. He looked down at the sketch. "You.. You're a good drawer. Well, more like an excellent drawer."
Sam nodded slowly. "Thank you, Master."
He hummed. "By the way.. I'm so, so sorry for throwing you into the shelf and then hurting Jack."
Sam cleared her throat. "Oh um.. y-yeah.. it's ok.."
Mark sighed. "No, it's not. I haven't given you anything to eat and I.. I've been too harsh. I'm sorry."
Sam smiled a little. "I'm sorry too, Master. I shouldn't have been such a smart-ass toward you.. It's just.. I.. I love him, Mark. Not in a sibling way.."
Mark's eyes softened. "Sam.. you know you and him aren't siblings, right?"
Sam cocked her head. "What?"
"Felix and I didn't sign any documents to show you are adopted by us. We stole you so you are still best friends."
Sam flushed red. "I shouldn't have told you that I like Jack.."
Mark shook his head. "No, No. it's ok."
She traced Jack's sketched jawline on the paper. "I.. I do love him, Mark. You and Felix.. it's hard to love him when we are being abused, yelled at, working our asses off and not being able to get any time to ourselves."
Mark sighed. "Yes. I know. Felix has his ways and I abide by them."
"But why! Why not just not abide by rules for one day, Mark?"
Mark chuckled. "Oh Sam. You don't know what my consequences are."
Sam's eyes widened. "M-Mark? Are you in an abusive relationship?"
Mark smiled weakly. "An abusive-I-love-you relationship."
"So you love him for who he is??"
Mark nodded.
"But he hurts you!"
"Meh. So what?" Mark shrugged his shoulders. "I don't care. What I do care about is you and Jack. Please just.. just do what Felix says, ok?"
Sam nodded.
"Oh and I'm gonna be going back to the old Mark after this conversation so, don't say anything to Felix. Understand?"
"Yes, Mark."
