eight.
sweater weather.
It's only a blink of an eye till the sun sets. And yet here we are, casually strollin' as if we're in a music video of some sort.
The wind started to blow harder and snow started to fall, yet much fierce than before. Another blizzard I guess? We gotta hurry, then.
"Nah," He said.
"Nah what?"
"Don't feel like runnin' if a blizzard's comin',"
"'Kay, but I ain't going with you. Take me home."
"Nah. I'll stay here."
"Airhead," I mumbled. He'll get sick! I'll get sick! Worst, some infrastructure might fall off and squish us!
"Cockroach," he nudged me.
"What?!"
" 'Cause of that dark brown coat you're wearing and your hair's become a mess," he said as he patted my head and made them messy. He just made it messy. It wasn't even messy.
"And a cockroach's..flexible, like if you trap it down it'll flatten and thus, escape the dilemma,"
Is he implying that I'm a flexible pest in his life that could dodge whatever he throws at me? 'Cause, I find that not nice.
Darkness fell upon us and streetlights lit up the neighborhood. We see his house in the distance and I fasten up a little bit, while he still didn't change his phase.
"You know, there's this.. there's this girl,"
"That.. I like?" He continued.
"You like?"
"Yeah," he said, staring in the falling snow. "I think I do like her."
I fastened up my pace. I continued walking through the silence when he stopped and spoke.
The cold breeze past by my ear and I figured that he won't speak unless I turn around, for that's what's been going on for five minutes.
And so I turned around.
And met each other's eyes.
"Would you do the honor of helping me court her?" Zach said, his eyes glinting with a spark of hope as he asked me this very question.
I smiled at him, though I don't know what would've it looked like to him. Then I looked down, feeling the cold breeze piercing through my skin.
It's like I'm not wearing any winter clothes, but I feel myself scarring.
"Sure, why not," I sniffed through the cold air. Those snowflakes, getting unto my nose. "I'm your best friend, aren't I?"
"Yeah, the best-est one," He said, joy fully evident in his expression as he walked over to me and put his hand over my shoulder, dragging me to home.
"That's not even a word!"
"I have my rules,"
But I guess that so-called "home" wouldn't exist anymore.
...
Turns out the front door was buried in snow and here we are stuck in eternal winter.
"I am lazy and too tired to look for a shovel and dig these snow away," Zach muttered, making snow angels hoping that he would somehow pave the snow.
I sat on their front porch's bench and stared at the small fountain's now overflowing ice.
"I forgot to turn off the water from flowing," he stated.
"Jack Frost are you?" I teased him.
"No, I'm Elsa,"
"Oh wow. Then why'd you leave Arendelle?"
"In search of the Great Perhaps,"
"Of what?" I'm confused.
"I'm looking for Alaska."
It took me a moment for the words he said to sink in deep into my mind.
"OHH! You read John Green?"
"Yes, I do,"
Pardon me for forgetting one of your favorite hobbies, sir, that you like reading books.
I've read that book with you too, once, the night you went home from camping when you were in your first year of college.
And of course, you wouldn't remember.
"That reminds me, we could've gone to the roof through the fountain to climb up that tree beside the terrace and vóila, roof," He said as he cut me off from my trances of the past.
"Should've thought of that earlier," I smiled as I got off the porch and followed me to the fountain.
Zach got up to the fountain first and set his foot up unto a branch of the tree, steadied himself and stretched out his hand to me. I did the same steps as I held his hand, and got up next to him in the tree branch.
He then went up the terrace and then hopped again to another high branch. And so on, I did the same.
Following his steps.
Like how I always did.
Soon I found myself meters above ground as I breath in the view of the winter wonderland before me.
We both rested our backs unto the snow on the roof, Zach still making snow angels.
Snowflakes fall gracefully unto my face, not bothering to remove any of them. I personally adore snow, I like feeling the chill thrilling around me whenever I feel the cold air. I see snow as something beautiful from the any other seasons, but they all have their own kind of charm.
Winter reminds me of all the seasons that gone by, when everything already froze and were made into falling snowflakes, that time passes by and moments will be gone, but will be something to be remembered and appreciated like snowflakes - as they melt and disappear into my very grasp.
In short, winter makes me sad yet at the same time happy for the reason I am similar to itself.
"Do you know why I keep making snow angels?" He asked.
I turned to look at him. "Why?"
"Because an angel came when I was buried deep down in the snow," he finally said.
Another snowflake melted under my eye.
"Cause it's too cold
For you here and now
So let me hold
Both your hands in the holes of my sweater "
