Nova could do nothing but helplessly watch as the chains that bound her prohibited her from helping her friends.
Link had been relentlessly trying to strike the Demon King, Demise, with his sword, yet every time her had an opening, he could only make contact once before the boar returned a strike. The blonde was now covered in wounds, with the boar suffering from little damage.
Meanwhile, Midna was using the powers she had recently regained to defeat Ghirahim. But he was not going to go down without a proper fight. He had managed to get a few scratches on the woman, the red blood showing contrast with her elaborate turquoise markings on her skin. Yet, she had earned the upper hand.
The young Princess was now giving Ghirahim a severe beating, bruising and cutting his body with the mere force of her power. Nova watched as the woman threw the despised man across the Sanctuary, and he collided into his manifested with a harsh impact. This shattered the artificial barrier as the impact even cracked the stairwell below the platform where the brunette was bound.
Blood oozed from Ghirahim's head and mouth, and the only movement he could make was the twitching of his fingers. Midna strolled over to his body gracefully, then stood over him, position her hands so that the force she created wrapped around his neck. She lifted him into the air, holding his fractured body above the stairwell, watching blood drip from his body to the stairs, staining the white ivory.
With another flick of her wrist, Midna snapped Ghirahim's neck. She then let him fall to the ground and effortlessly walked over him to Nova. With a smooth movement, she freed Nova from the chains that bound her, letting her stand on the Triforce symbol again. Nova rubbed her wrists, which were slightly red because of the tight chains.
"You're beautiful, Midna." Despite everything occurring, the brunette was still able to smile. Then, both of their heads turned to the sound of Link's painful cries.
Nova watched, horror filling her golden eyes, as Demise threw Link into a wall using his sharp horns. There was blood spewing from the blonde's mouth and running down the side of his face, as well as wounds all over his body. The battle did not seem to be going in his favor.
"Link!" Nova cried out, terrified of what may happen. She stepped forward, prepared to run to her companion's side, but Midna put her long arm in front of the girl, stopping her from continuing.
"You have a mission to complete. I will help him." The fiery-haired woman displayed a smile.
"But -" Nova started to say, but was interrupted by Midna waving her hand.
"Trust us to complete our own mission. Now, revive the Goddesses, Nova!" She encouraged, and then ran to join the battle with Link.
The brunette bit her lip as worry flooded through her veins. She turned to stand in the center of the symbol carved into the ivory floor. Her golden eyes studied each statue, then she turned to the one slightly behind her, to the left.
This is where the Sapphire of Nayru would be useful, and this was when Nova understood why Halo had consumed those gems. The power within the Sapphire was now within the girl, and it seemed to glow through her fingertips as she lifted her hands. She slowly walked towards the statue of Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom, with her hands cupped as though she was holding something within them.
As she approached the statue, water seemed to flow from inside her skin, and into a small pool within the cup formed by her fingers. Nova leaned over, and poured the manifested water into the ivory bowl being held by the carved figure of Nayru.
She then turned in the opposite direction and faced the statue of Farore, the Goddess of Courage. The dancing form carved into the ivory caused a slight smile to stretch across Nova's lips. Nothing was to be poured into this bowl, yet it still yearned for something inside.
Using one of her hands, Nova faced her palm towards the sky, then brought her entire hand upwards as though she was raising something from the ground. This drew out the power of the Emerald of Farore, raising a flower from the bowl atop of the statue's head.
With one statue left, Nova walked to the central ivory carving of Din, the Goddess of Power. She placed her hands underneath the ivory bowl that she held, then brought them around the top of the bowl, circling the air around it.
Then, the brunette stepped back to the center of the platform, in the center of the Triforce symbol. As soon as she did this, a flame sparked to life in the bowl that Din possessed, feeding from the power within the Ruby of Din.
The symbol began to glow, reflecting from the increasingly bright moon seen through the hole in the ceiling. Nova's eyes reflected an iridescent golden light, soaking in the power being produced within the triangle. She could feel the holy atmosphere increase, and the devilish aura in the room diminish as this power emanated throughout the palace.
She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath before facing the moon above her. She opened her eyes once more. In the same moment, bright light emitted from her body, consuming her brilliant eyes. The glow consumed the entire Divine Sanctuary, forcing the resurrected form of Demise into nothing but dust, littering the polished ground that was now stained with blood.
The faint sound of a harp could be heard through the heavenly space, then the sound of humming, much like Nova's voice. No words were uttered, but the melody was hummed beautifully.
And then, the light softened until it disappeared. Small, colored orbs were levitating above each of the Goddess statues, representing blue, green, and red symbolic colors.
"Thank you." The words echoed through the Sanctuary, and the orbs danced around the platform like the lanterns of the festival the adventurers had attended. After that, they dissolved in the moonlight as well.
Nova knew that she had heard nothing other than the voices of the Goddesses, thanking her for her efforts to revive them. And she was successful in her quest. A small smile reached her face as she turned to her friends who were waiting for her below the blood-stained stairwell.
She felt as though all the strength she had gained through her journey had been retracted, and she could barely stand. The gold designs on her body disappeared, leaving the familiar symbols on her forehead, collarbone, and shoulders, which were all faded to black. Nova opened her eyes to see the friends who had helped her throughout this process.
And her brilliant golden eyes no longer shined.
Her irises and pupils were purely white, losing her renowned trait. Yet, although she had lost her golden gaze, Link smiled, holding out his arms. The brunette walked down the ivory stairs, swaying unsteadily. When she reached the bottom, she fell into Link's warm embrace, nuzzling her face into his sore neck, though he didn't complain.
She shut her eyes again, and then cracks formed along her limbs as though she was a porcelain doll, with white light emanating through them.
Link held onto her, afraid that if he let her go, she would break like a glass vase.
"I have completed my quest." They could hear the tears she shed through her words.
"Now we can go back to Hyrule." Link said as his blue eyes watered. The girl's body continued to crack as she nodded, clutching the boy's tunic. "We can go back and start a life together. We can get married to people we love, have children, and grow old..." His voice trailed, letting tears fall as he realized the situation.
Nova nodded again as she sobbed. "Yes, I want a life like that." She said softly, her voice diminishing. Cracks covered her body as she brought her thin lips to Link's ear. "I want to live a life like that with you..." Her voice trailed off, becoming an echo-like tone that seemed barely existent. The sound of her crying had also disappeared.
The glow between the creases of her cracking body grew, forcing the portions of her skin to separate further.
"Me too, Nova." Link's cries bounced from the walls of the otherwise silent Divine Sanctuary. Yet, he could feel her lips curl into a weak smile on his neck.
Nova shattered.
