Lunch, at least, is one thing I know I can count on to be constant in my life. As long as I can remember, us social rejects have swarmed together and sat at the same table every lunch period. We’ll sit down, nod, maybe say hi or ask a question, and then ignore each other, chatting only with our one or two close friends. That’s how it’s always been. That’s how it’s going to be until we go to college.
Or so I thought, until I entered the cafeteria today.
The first thing I see—a crowd of popular girls, jocks, and some of my old tablemates, all smiling at me. This time I know better than to think they’re looking for something else, but I still have no idea what to do when Popular Lucy approaches with two of her loyal cronies, Sophia and Chloe. “Hey, Luce!” she says, “Congrats on getting Skye in the movie. She’s such a cool character, and you’re going to be, like, amazing! Want to come eat with us?”
As much as I hate myself at this point, there’s a part of me that’s tempted to take her up. I love Kat, but who doesn’t want to belong? But then anger surges over me. Do Lucy, Sophia and Chloe really think I’m stupid enough to sit with them after they tortured me for years? I don’t let emotion flit across my face, but take up Skye’s cool, snarky attitude and try to ignore my fear as I tell them my mind.
“Hmmm, and yet, I seem to remember you shoving me away from your table yesterday?” I hear a few gasps, but a few laughs, too. “So thanks, but no thanks. I’m going to hang out with my real friends.” I walk past her, to the unpopular table, Kat following. “And don’t call me Luce.” Some of the boys start oooh-ing and whispering things like, “Burn!” and “Busted!” to each other.
But, of course, the drama doesn’t stop when I reach the table. Of course not. Because now that I’m a famous actress, no one will leave me alone. Kat and I sit down, but there’s still a pretty big group following us. People are randomly shouting things at me. “I deserved that part!” “I love you!” “Please come sit with us! We’re sorry!” Even, “Hey, Lucy! Want to come on a date? Go to Starbucks after school, sounds good, huh?” Finally, I’ve had enough.
“No, no, no!” I scream. “This is it! If you really want to say sorry for all that bullying, don’t do it right after I’ve gotten the biggest acting part in the country. I know your just sucking up. So just go away and leave me alone! C’mon, Kat. We’re going.” I start to drag Kat out of the cafeteria, but soon, we’re both hurrying out. The student body stands shell shocked in the lunch room, which gives me a little satisfaction.
“C’mon,” I say, slowing my pace now that we’re alone. “We need to get away from here. Anywhere.”
Kat gives me a small smile. “You know, Luce, I didn’t know you had that in you,” she says. “Where’d it come from?”
I smile back, already knowing the answer. “Skye.”

A/N: Sorry about the long update, this is a really busy time of year for me. Luckily, i just finished a lot of my work so I'll be able to update more often!!! This chapter isn't the best or the longest, so I'll understand if you're a little bored, but I promise it gets better!!! Drama starts in the next chapter... *evil laugh*...
Also, please check out my other story and profile page! I have some story ideas on my profile page that I'd really like some response on, and please tell me what you think of my other story "Clark Academy"--it's not as popular as this one, so I want to know if I should continue.
Sorry about the long A/N. Thanks for reading! :D
