"Hey, you okay?" Chris asked Charlotte as they sat inside the bright restaurant.
"No, we're having a fight." She sighed and put her head in her hands.
"Aw, sweetheart. Over what?" Her mother Jill asked.
"Meeting you, and then he tried to say he had to go because you were at his house." She gestured to Chris.
"I thought he'd be excited to meet your mom," Chris told her.
"So did I. He's being so passive about it. He left me on read after I called him out on his bullshit. Sorry, mom." She told them and smiled when she saw the waiter.
"I can talk to him if you want?" Chris offered.
"I don't know, he'll probably be upset with you too, you're talking to the enemy." She told him.
"You're not the enemy Lottie, I think he's just nervous, he'll come to his senses soon enough." He rubbed her arm to reassure her.
"I hope so Chris, that idiot means the world to me." She smiled at the last part.
