When Norman entered the diner, he gasped. The place looked like it had just been ransacked. There were chairs strewn about, some of the lights were flickering on and off, condiments and their respective containers everywhere, and various food items - raw and cooked - littered the floor. Also, it smelled terrible.
"Oh my god," Norman said.
"Oh my god is right," Dipper said,
"This is a serious poltergeist we're dealing with here. Are you up for this, Norman?""Of course he is, Dipper," Mabel said, "He's our resident ghost expert."
They began walking down the diner aisle.
"Dude, you see anything?" Dipper asked.
"Uh, no, not yet."
"They might be in the storage ," Mabel said.
"Good idea."
The trio walked through the kitchen to the door to the storage room. As they got closer, Norman began hearing a muffled voice coming from the other side.
"Do you guys hear that?" Norman whispered.
"Hear what?" Dipper whispered back.
"There's a voice coming from the door."
"Is it the ghost?" Mabel asked.
"If only Norman can hear it, then probably yes. Mabel, how many potatoes do you have felt?"
"About a baker's dozen," she said with a grin, equipping her potato launcher.
"Good enough. Norman, do those ghost powers of yours have any defensive capabilities?"
"Uh, I don't... think so?"
"Then stay behind us, this might get ghastly."
Dipper slowly reached for the door while Mabel readied her launcher.
"Uh, wait guys," Norman said.
The siblings looked back at their newest compainion, puzzled.
"What?" Dipper said.
"Yeah," Mabel added, "I was about to bust in there potatoes blazin'!"
"Well, as the resident ghost expert and all, why don't we try, I don't know, talking things out first?"
"Talking?" Dipper said, "From the looks of things, I think this ghost is beyond reason."
"Look," Norman said, "I'm speaking from personal experience. Sometimes, a few words can go a long way."
Dipper and Mabel exchanged glances.
"Fine. But if things go south..." Dipper thumbed behind him.
"Fine."
The siblings stepped back and let him pass. Norman walked up to the door and raised his hand to knock.
"What are you doing?" Dipper asked.
Norman looked back at him."I'm knocking."
"Yeah, but why?"
"Because, it's polite."
So, Norman knocked on the door. The voice on the other side fell silent.
"Who is it?" an hissing, female voice asked.
"A friend," Norman answered.
After a few seconds, the doorknob slowly turned on its own and the door opened inward, releasing a blast of cold fog and a putrid odor that you could almost see.
