Norman woke up early the next morning, about 7, which surprised him. He wasn't an early riser during the summer. Usually, it was just the opposite. He crawled out of the motel bed slowly, careful not to wake his sister sleeping in the next bed. He quietly got ready for the day.
Norman exited the bathroom after taking his morning shower and caught Courtney mid-stretch/yawn.
"Good morning," Norman said, drying his hair, "Did I wake you up?"
"Maybe," Courtney groaned. "What time is it?"
"Around 7:30, I think,"
"Huh," she said, and stared blankly at the sheets in front of her.
"You ok?" Norman asked as he was getting dressed.
Courtney's eyes focused on her brother for a second before running both hands through her messy, blonde hair and flopping back on the bed, her college sweater bunching up with air.
"I'm bored, Norman. So bored."
"Oh," Norman said, pulling on his favorite sweater, "Sorry to hear that."
Courtney leaned up on her elbows.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"Hanging out with some friends. They're coming to pick me up."
Courtney laughed dryly and flopped back down. "Friends, huh. Take it from me, Norman, be careful who you hang out with."
"They're not those kind of friends."
"O-k." Then she closed her eyes and fell silent. Norman walked to the door, but hesitated. He glanced behind him and regarded his sister laying on the bed. He felt kinda bad, leaving her all alone. His parents had sent him and Courtney on this trip together so they could "bond", but Norman never really say that happening. She was away from all her college friends and pretty much the rest of the world. It worried him.
"Hey, Courtney?"
The blonde opened one eye. "What?"
"Are you gonna be ok by yourself? I might be gone for the whole day."
Courtney closed her. "I appreciate the thought, Norman, but I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself. Plus..." she pointed at the keys on the nightstand, "I rented a car, which means I can go wherever I want."
"Ok, but in case you're wondering, I'll be at a place called the Mystery Shack."
"Noted."
"Well, bye then," Norman exited the room and waited for Dipper outside.
