There was a breeze passing through the dark woods of Blithe Hallow that night. It brushed pass the summer leaves, and pushed through the bushes. It wove through the tall trees and danced between their branches. It twirled and spun without a care in the world, going where it wished, unheeded and unburdened. It played and played until it came upon a certain tree in the middle of the forest. It stood solitary in a small clearing, bent and dark. It bore no leaves, for it had died a great while ago, and the ground surrounding it was yellow and sparse.
The breeze circled the tree for great while, brimming with curiosity. It had never seen a tree so sad. It twirled and twirled about it until suddenly, a stranger appeared. The breeze stopped in its tracks, but not by its own accord. It was not in its nature to do so. A certain wrongness began to fill it as it hung in the air, for it was - by definition - a dynamic thing, constantly in motion. The breeze knew not what what to do with this new experience, so it watched the stranger. He sighed and looked up.
"Come to watch?" the stranger asked, still staring upwards. The breeze was fairly certain who the question was directed at, but didn't answer. It couldn't. And frankly, it felt like it shouldn't.
"Fine by me. I always love an audience."
The stranger looked back down at the tree before them. He squatted by the large roots, curled like old knuckles. He brushed their robe aside and raised his fist. He knocked on the trunk of the dead tree, as if it was a door. The knocks were light, but the sound resonated to the surrounding trees.
"Agatha," he whispered. "It's time to wake up."
The breeze watched as a translucent, green girl faded into existence, sleeping soundly. The stranger poked her cheek, and the girl woke with a start, immediately sitting upright.
"Wha-?" she exclaimed, confused, "Where am I? Who- Mother? Where's Mother?"
"Hey, hey, hey, calm down," the stranger said quickly with a soothing voice. Agatha focused on them, her confusion turning to anger.
"What have you done?" she snarled.
"Wrong questions," the stranger said with a smile, "For I haven't done anything. Yet."
"What are y-" Agatha started, but was cut off by the stranger's hand grabbing her by the face. She tried to scream, but her cries were muffled. Streaks of red lightning starting to flowing from his hand and arced through her transparent body. The wind picked up, casting twigs and leaves in a violent storm about them. Agatha desperately grabbed her assailant's hand, trying to pry it away, but to no avail. The stranger grip was like a vice.
"Remember," the stranger said slowly, ignoring her muffled cries. He stood, hoisting up the small girl by the face. "Remember!" The red lightning was turning her green, ghostly hue into a angry blood red, growing brighter and brighter. It cast a crimson light over the surrounding trees, turning the placid clearing into a blood-red nightmare.
The breeze watched, powerless and frozen, even when surrounded by a storm of wind. It struggled against its invisible chains until they loosened, and began wildly circling the clearing in distress. In a desperate lunge, it blasted into the stranger, but he took no notice. The breeze tried again and again, but it simply wasn't powerful enough, especially not the face of something like this. The intensity of the light increased, and the red lighting began travelling outwards, streaking through the woods. Finally, it decided it could bear the horrible scene no longer. It turned away from that awful clearing and fled into the night.
