8...IT'S SHORT.
Sorry about that, but I'll write more tomorrow, I promise. :)
Chapter 8
Another call came the next night, no other bodies were found, but Braedon wanted to go over the murders that had been recently. He wanted my knowledge on what everyone had in common.
And I have to admit, when the ID on my phone said his name...I kind of got a little jumpy.
I changed into a black ensemble, it just seemed right to wear black. It kind of made me feel like a cool spy.
Well, actually, I'm much cooler than a spy. I'm a vampire.
I laughed at my stupid joke and grabbed the car keys. We were meeting at a local bar that was usually not too busy, but I had a feeling we would be getting a private booth.
I arrived around ten minutes later. Black SUV's were all over the parking lot. It made it look like something was going down here. Way to make it obvious.
I walked into the doors and cigarette smoke hit me immediately. The hostess looked at me and she knew who I was with. The black clothes gave it away.
We walked towards the back of the restaurant/bar and I spotted a group of men all bent over looking at something on table. I spotted Braedon as soon as I looked.
He was dressed in a black button-up dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. A line was crossing his forehead and it looked like he was studying a photo. I came up to them and the guys scooted over.
"What's on the agenda tonight?" I asked as I settled in.
Photos were sprawled across the table of faces that looked unfamiliar except for one. It was the blonde girl I had examined last night. I pulled the photo closer. I was right, she was pretty.
"We want to find anything in common between these people. Why were they the ones to be killed?" Braedon murmured. His voice echoed in my head, making me get shivers. It was low and deep.
If I would have had a heartbeat, it probably would have picked up a bit.
I examined all of the photos a little more. Every single one had a good-looking person in them.
"They're all good-looking." I stated in a small voice. Braedon nodded.
"I noticed. They have all been turned into vampires too. The girl from last night woke up late this morning. She didn't know anything. I have a feeling if we would have left her the killer would have come back for her." he replied, running his strong hands through the photos.
"But why would they have left her out in the open?" I asked. He looked at me out of the corner of his eye.
"That's the problem. I think they just wanted to let us know that they're creating vampires." Braedon was put his head in his hands.
"But what for?" I asked him. He shook his head and rubbed his hands across his face.
Then his blue eyes met mine and he studied me for a few moments.
"Many people try to kill you, right?" he asked casually like it was just another question.
I looked at him curiously.
"Sure, I am the second vampire. Why wouldn't they try to kill me?" I replied and reached for another photo, but wasn't really seeing it.
I remembered a time two-hundred years ago when I was betrayed. By the man I had loved. I remembered those blue eyes that I had thought loved me back. Well, I was wrong.
And Braedon sometimes reminded me of him...
"Well, there's a chance they're coming for you. And this killing is all a warning." he said slowly, to make sure that I got every word of it.
And I did.
