"I feel you, burning under my skin,

I swear I see you shining,

Brighter than the flame inside your eyes"

~

The next day, Jess waves goodbye to her brother Ashton as he drives away, promising to return tomorrow to comfort her yet again. She had to admit, Ashton did a good job at distracting her from the problem at hand; but she hadn't forgotten. She would never forget.

Not even an hour after Ashton had left, Luke knocked on the door, with more ambition than the previous day; he had a plan. He would take things slow, ease his words into her brain. He wouldn't push her too hard too soon; he'd be gentle and play things carefully.

"Luke, what a surprise," Jess said sarcastically, opening the door wider, "Come in."

She figured that there was no point in fighting him; Luke wouldn't take no for an answer.

"How are you?" He asks, shoving his hands in the pockets of his black skinny jeans. He'd worn a smarter shirt today; a Nirvana one.

Jess raises her eyebrows at him and Luke's eyes widen, "Sorry, sorry. Um..." He racks his brains for a way to rephrase his sentence, "I hope you're good."

She sighs, taking a seat at the dining table and Luke follows suit.

"Have you thought about... us, yet?" He asks hopefully.

"Yes... yes, I have." Jess sighs loudly, "But I still don't know what to do."

Luke groans loudly and just like that, his plan goes down the drain. He stands up in his seat, rolling his eyes.

"So you're just going to leave me hanging until you decide whether to drop me or not?" He raises his voice and Jess' eyes widen.

"Considering what you've done, yeah!" She yells back, taking a step toward the frustrated boy.

"I'm not some toy, Jess, you can't throw me around-"

"Don't you talk to me about toys," She scoffs, "You cheated on me with my best friend! You're lucky I'm even talking to you right now!"

"Go on then," Luke urges her on, taking a step toward Jess so that their noses are almost touching. Almost, "Tell me how much of a douche I am."

"You're a fucking idiot, and I hate you," He nods her on, slowly inching forward, "And I hate what you've done and you're a douche and a.. an idiot and-"

Luke cuts her off by closing the space between them, slamming his lips to hers. If it wasn't already wrong, it got so much worse when Jess kissed back.

His large hands gripped her petite hips as he drove them both into the bedroom, ripping off random items of clothing in the process. As they lay down on the bed, Luke smiled to himself. This was the only human contacted he needed and craved; he was drunk when he cheated on Jess, so that didn't count. He could feel her burning under his skinbrighter than the flame that was burning inside her eyes as he kissed her passionately.

Both Luke and Jess knew that she would regret this later, but for now that didn't matter.

All that mattered was the present.
