Chapter 13: A day off

I woke up by a cool breeze from my window, which I seem to have forgotten to close. I snuggled with the warm blanket wrapped around me and felt it warm me up.

I felt a sharp pain in my head and got up, still wrapped in the fuzzy blanket. I walked towards my kitchen - where the meds are located. Sleepily I grabbed a glass and filled it up to a third with water. I unscrewed the cap of the painkiller bottle, only to find it empty. I sighed deeply while drinking the water. Why waste it?

I decided to take a shower, and then go out to buy more meds. I like how quiet it is, although my head keeps on hurting

The hot water streamed down on my head and continued flowing down. It felt nice, but the hot water made it worse for some reason. I turned down the heat and the cold water poured. My head felt better, but I still needed the painkiller.

I stepped out of the shower and grabbed the towel that was laying on the floor. The fluffy towel wasn't the best choice for drying myself, but it felt nice and cozy. I wrapped it around me, grabbed the hair dryer and got ready to walk out the door.

The pharmacy was close by, it was around a ten-minute walk, although, since I'm a very stressed person and walk fast, I can make it in 6 minutes.

Autumn was really coming on hard, and as it entered October, the month of Halloween started. The colors of the leaves changed to color the atmosphere, and it was beautifully breathtakening. It was quite windy outside and the yellow and red leaves flew of the ground and swirled around in the air for a few seconds until they dropped down.

I looked up from admiring the circus that the leaves and the wind had put on, only to realize that I had arrived at my destination. No one was walking down the street - which was understandable since it was a work day.

I opened the door to the pharmacy and immediately my headache got stronger. The person behind the counter looked concerned and asked if I was fine, which I replied yes to. Her double was fretting around, and seemed to be worrying about something personal. It felt weird seeing them again after being able to shut them off for a while, I still have to get used to it, I guess.

I found the shelf where the painkillers were, grabbed one of the bottles that I usually get, and went to the front to pay. I started to cough and feel hot, but I didn't think much of it.

I handed the cashier the money for the meds, she smiled at me and gave me the bottle. I smiled back tiredly.

"Get better soon, and don't catch that cold you're getting!" She told me as I headed towards the exit.

"I will, thanks," I replied as I walked out.

I felt something moving in my pocket and picked up my phone. Seems like Rye texted me.

Rye: Hey, I haven't heard from you in a while.

A while? I thought. We had 'hung out' yesterday.

Vic: Yeah, did something happen?

Rye: I was going to ask you the same thing. I heard Nick came crawling back here.

Vic: Yeah, Nick and I... bumped into each other.

Rye: Oh... so how did that go?

Vic: It went fine, I got some stuff off of my chest, got to tell him off.

Rye: Didn't know you had it in you ;p

Oh god, did he just... did he just use a smiley? What is with this guy?

Vic: Hahaha, looks like I did. So why did you text me? Did something happen?

I repeated myself since it seems to be the only way to get answers from this guy.

Rye: Oh, that's right.

He started typing away.

Rye: There is an upcoming mission for you. It's supposed to be ready to do next week, and since you're a newbie, I have to supervise you. You up for it?

Vic: What's the mission?

Rye: You'll find out soon enough. Plus, I think there's something to it that'll get you more motivated...

Vic: What do you mean?

Rye: Well, since you joined the organization, it's kind of like you now are an employee. So, welcome to the job and get ready for the cash to flow in xD.

You'd normally think that a 25-year-old would act more professional about this - especially considering how Rye is in real life, but oh well. It's nice to see this new side of him.

The conversation stopped, and I continued on walking home.
