AT HANNAH'S HOME.....

Eva was walking the floor worried for her daughter. It was

dark and Hannah had not returned. She was going to go look

for her when....

"Mommy! I'm home. I'm sorry I'm late. I was playing on the

rocky hill but one of the rocks slipped and I had to come

down another way. It won't happen again because I..." Eva

Marie rushed to her daughter. "OH god!! You're right! It

won't happen again because you will not go out into the

woods again. Not ever!! Do you know how scared I was?"

"But mommy!" "No! Never again! Go get ready for supper.

It'll get cold!" Eva wiped the tears from her eyes and

went to the table to make sure Hannah's food was warm so

she could eat it. Hannah ran to the water closet to wash

up. She was crying because she knew she'd not see Michael

again. Eva Marie stayed at the table. "Mommy, why are

you mad at Hannah?" Luna asked innocently. "Oh, I'm not.

Not really. I was just scared for your sister. She was

gone so long and it got dark. Mommy got scared is all."

She pats her younger daughters cheek lovingly. "Eat your

supper okay?" "Okay." Luna returned to eating. Hannah

came and joined the family but she was sullen and spoke

to no one. Eating very little, Hannah asked to be excused

and went to bed.

Michael heard the yelling earlier and knew it was his

fault. He kept Hannah out too long. He slipped into

the darkness as he had so many nights before.

Come the morning. Again, flowers. Eva Marie was still

upset over last night. She picks them up and gets angry.

Throwing them in the yard. "MICHAEL!! MICHAEL!! IS THIS

YOU!!??? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME!!?? TEN YEARS!!

TEN YEARS AND NOW YOU COME!! YOU THINK THESE FLOWERS

WILL MAKE IT ALL BETTER!!??? YOU DIED!! I THOUGHT YOU

Hannah stayed home that day. She didn't go out to play

Hannah stayed quiet and read a book all day. She ate
