The Dragon-Witch Chronicles - Prinxiety AU

Chapter Six

~Roman~

I grabbed Virgil and ran for my sword. The dragon-witch's tail slashed at us as she roared. The boy groaned at my touch and clung to the fabric of my shirt. I ran for my sword but it was ripped away by the dragon-witch's magic. The witch crept toward us menacingly and dust fell from the ceiling as she stomped forward. I ran for the exit of the cave as my last resort.

The witch slashed at us once more, this time colliding with my side and throwing us against the wall of the cave. I held Virgil to my chest as I withstood the impact for both of us. Small pebbles began to sprinkle from the roof of the cavern. The dragon-witch roared once again and this time, the roof wouldn't hold.

I picked up the boy once more and dashed for the mouth of the cave. Large rocks and boulders rained from the cave like a meteor shower and the dragon-witch's cries of pain were drowned in the chaos.

I slowed as I felt my legs give out from under me. I used my last strength to get Virgil and myself onto Pegasus and rode down the mountain. I reached the edge of the trees before my endurance failed and I collapsed onto the mossy earth.

When I awoke again, the stars shone brightly overhead. A fire crackled beside me. Virgil sat with his back to me; a blood-soaked bandage was wrapped tightly to his side. I paused, then metaphorically slapped myself when all that I could manage was, "Hey."

He sighed and quietly replied, "Hey there, Princey."

I regained my composure and stood. Walking to where Virgil sat, I knelt next to him with my hand on his knee. "I'm sorry, Virgil. I shouldn't have said what I did. We all need you." Understanding how stupid that sounded, I added, "Patton is a wreck without you there."

Virgil brushed my hand off of his knee and curtly stated, "Fine. I'll go back, but only for Patton. And you're not forgiven."

I sighed and laid back down to watch the stars. As I drifted to sleep, I heard a roar in the distance.

A/N Oh my gosh it's finally done!! That took way longer than I expected. This is my senior year of high school, and it has been killing me! Physics and calculus? What? But I finally got around to finishing this chapter! Thank you for bearing with me and showing your support through the wait! I'm going on winter break soon, so I'm hoping to be able to write even more! See ya!
