Miss Peregrine opened the door, frightened of the return of her brother. Caul walked in, keeping the mystery girl by his side.
"Alma, it's been too long." Caul said, nastily. He came in and hugged Miss Peregrine in a threatening way. "How's it been?"
"What do you want?" Miss Peregrine asked. Caul nodded his head towards the girl and smiled.
"Where is your waterbender?"
In the dining room, the children were listening. They were confused about this 'Caul' person and they knew that the waterbender was Hadley.
"He's talking about Hadley, isn't he?" Bronwyn asked Emma. Emma nodded slowly and listened more.
"I don't know what you are talking about." Miss Peregrine stood her ground. Caul shuffled towards her and swiftly walked into the dining room.
"Hello children." He said to the wards.
"Umm, what's going on?" The girl said. She looked like she had been to Hell and back. Her blonde hair was ruffled and her clothes were ripped.
"Oh, I forgot about you. Children, this is Kayla. Now, where is your waterbender?"

I walked up to the docks and caught a ferry to Cairnholm. Panting, I rested on a bench and looked outwards. The ferry was too slow and I needed to find Kayla. Carefully, I slipped away from the crowd and found my way to the back of the boat. I moved the water so it pressed up against the back on the ferry, making in move faster. In ten minutes, I was at Cairnholm. As I got off the boat, I heard the boat driver say in a confused voice, "that was quick."
I raced through the village and found myself at the loop entrance. I went inside the loop and closed in on the house. The house had a different sense to it, though. It burst with excitement and happiness like normal, it felt dreary and horrid. I walked inside.
"Kayla?" I said, as I saw my best friend inside. I raced up to her and gave her a massive hug. "What the heck are you doing here?"
"Supporting you, minus the part of me being captured." Kayla said. I hugged her again, cherishing every second.
"So, you lied." Caul said. I scowled at him for hurting my friend. I didn't know what they were talking about but I was angry anyway.
"Yes, but I didn't realise she would come out of the blue." Miss Peregrine said. I looked around, confused at what was happening. I tugged Kayla out of the grip of Caul and we back away into a corner.
"Your Peculiar?" I asked her in a hushed voice. Kayla turned to me, nodding and shrugging.
"I didn't want to tell you because it's horrible. I wish I didn't have it." Kayla said. I nodded but then was curious.
"What is your peculiarity?"
Kayla looked down and suddenly her hands burst into black matter. It swarmed her hand and started eating her. I gasped and she made the matter disappear.
"It doesn't hurt me but it hurts others. It's how it killed my mother."
I nodded and gave her another hug. Tears were in both of our eyes.
"Let's get out of here." I said.
