My chest thumps from the music bumping in the night club. Flashy lights and colored lasers pan across my face as I slip past the crowds of rambunctious people. I make my way over towards the balcony, overlooking the entire dance floor. One by one, my eyes scan each person, looking for a particular behavioral pattern. If this 'Bela Talbot' is trying to keep a low profile, she won't exactly mingle with everyone here. The less people that see her face the better. I lean up against the glass railing, my body unconsciously swaying with the rhythmic melody. The bar is overflowing with guests, people strolling up, calling out orders left and right. But my eyes fall on one woman, who reaches for her drink on the counter and walks over to a secluded corner. She seats herself at a rounded table tucked against the wall, sipping her drink while keeping to herself. Bingo.
Weaving in and out of the couples staggered along the staircase, I meander in her direction, deciding to pull off my best tipsy impersonation. The thumping music covers my heavy footsteps, but once she looks over at me, I know she won't be tricked easily.
"Oh, my gosh. I love your hair!" She instinctively reaches for the ends of her dark strands curled around her shoulders -- definitely a wig.
"Um, thank you." A fake smile appears on her face before she returns to her drink.
"I'm Rose," I slip into the chair next to her, leaning onto the table with a hand under my chin.
She eyes me suspiciously, so I giggle and pull back, covering my face with my hand. "Sorry, I just get a little bold after I have a few drinks."
Her eyes widen, staring down at the alcohol swirling in her glass. "Did you come here with anyone?" she steers the conversation, trying to get me to drift towards the 'group I came with'.
"Oh, yeah! My boyfriend and --" I look out onto the dance floor, allowing my eyes to immediately land on a couple, tongues out in a wild frenzy.
My words freeze as I turn back towards the mystery woman, eyes mournfully digging into the table. Her light irises scan my face as I raise my head. Traces of both pity and disgust radiate from her gaze.
"Um...Well, I was with him," I obnoxiously chew on my lip to prevent the fake tears from spilling out. She scratches behind her neck, the wig itching her scalp, and sighs. My eyes travel down to a purse slung over the back of her chair, a phone clearly visible.
I drift closer to her, my lips hovering next to her ear. "I'm really lonely." She shivers as I place my hand on the inside of her thigh.
In a matter of seconds, she panics, lifting my hand which knocks over her drink. "Oh, my gosh! I am so sorry!" She scrambles with the napkins, making sure the liquid doesn't touch her outfit.
As she focuses on the mess in front of her, I quickly grab her phone, pop it open, and slip in a tracking chip, before placing it back in her purse. "You know, I should really go. I have an early day tomorrow," she stands from her chair, scooting as far away as she can from me.
