By the time they got back to the castle, everyone had started chanting "Klance! Klance!". Allura had no idea what a Klance was but she joined the chant anyways, and Lance was red-faced and instead chanted "Never! Never!" as he held his hoodie over his eyes (trying to hide his face, because if Keith saw that he was blushing and realized why he wouldn't ever talk to him again. Also, that would give Hunk something to tease about and Pidge blackmail material). Keith was walking at the back of the group with his hands where his pockets would be, and avoiding eye contact at all costs, resulting in Pidge suddenly yelling "I DARE YOU TWO TO KISS" and Lance almost screamed.
"PIDGE CALM YOUR QUIZNAK OR IM BREAKING UP WITH HIM!"
"So you admit that you agreed to-"
"PIDGE IT'S A WAY OF SAYING SHUT UP I'M NOT DATING ANYONE YET."
"Yet?"
Lance, being the sensible human being he is, leaped towards Pidge and locked her in a headlock, then proceeding to give her the angriest noogie he had ever given anyone. Crap, his face-
"Lance, your face has tinted colors! Are you okay?"
He sighed a very long sigh.
"No, I am not okay, they're embarrassing me in every way possible. My sweet pretend dignity has crumbled."
Keith walked up then, confusion on his expression.
"Pretend?" A surge of regret shot through him at the tone of his voice, and the mood was gone. So much for jokes and laughs, he said something wrong and now Keith was worried.
Wait...worried? When was Keith ever worried?
He leaped away from Pidge, now in an awkward position. He rubbed his arm, not knowing what to say.
"It's... don't worry about it."
Keith tilted his head.
"Why? Why is your dignity just pretend?"
Keith asked quietly, his face softening.
"I was joking, Keith, ha ha, but I guess it wasn't funny-" Keith narrowed his eyes, expression mostly neutralizing and crossing his arms.
"You're darn right it wasn't. Anyways, are we actually doing the date thing? Because I'm sure it would cheer Pidge up, her brother being gone is taking a toll on her or whatever." Keith was looking away now, and was whispering. He shifted his weight backward so he wasn't hunching over anymore. Lance didn't know what to say, so he just hummed.
Great, this is actually happening now.
