The Gray Eyed ( Demi-god themed)

Chapter Five

We jogged up to the mess hall. It had no roof or walls so I wondered how it was a hall. There were Twelve  rectangular tables. The biggest seated a plump, dark haired man, Chiron, and Aurgus (the eye dude). Lauryn beckoned me to sit up there with Austin, Andy, and herself. Unwillingly I gave in.

The plump man got up and said," Yes, yes. So we found some more brats to add to this forsaken camp. I guess I should say, welcome Andrew, Prissy, Ajar, and Lemon blah-blah-blah."

Chiron whispered in his ear.

" Err, I mean, Andy, Paige, Austin, and Lauryn. Hope you are claimed by your godly parent,blah-blah."

He sat down.

Everyone clapped as he sat down. I wondered: Who does this guy think he is? A god?. After about two or three minutes these girls came out of the woods. I mean literally melted from trees. They had greenish skin, brown hair, and elf-ish features.

They came with platters full of assorted fruits, barbecue, salads, veggies, etc. As soon as they set down the food I piled up my plate. I never realized how hungry I was until now. Andy said, " Oh, and for the goblets you just say what kind of drink you want and it will fill up. Non-alcoholic obviously."

He turned back to his plate filled it up and walked towards the fire. I decided to follow him and everyone else to the hearth. When I got to the front of the crowd I realized that  we were supposed to burn some of our food."What the heck are we doing this?" I asked.

" The gods like the smell." Lauryn said as she smiled.

" Since when we're you smarter than  me?" I replied.

"Since two days ago."

I picked up the biggest piece of briscut and tossed it into the fire. The smell surprised me. It smelled like roses, burgers, fudge, mint, and millions of other things that aren't supposed to go together but did  for some reason. "Mom?" I prayed, " Which ever Olympian you are, please claim me. I don't want to wait forever to know who you are so get it over with already." nothing happened. I went back to the table and started to stuff my face. I looked at Lauryn as she started to get up and I froze.  Every one else seemed to do so as well. They all kneeled, because above Lauryn's head was a electric blue lightning bolt. " Hail Lauryn Bridged! Daughter of Zeus.".

As Chiron said these words a silvery bow that glowed faintly appeared in her hand alongside a quiver filled with electric arrows and a shield. The shield was so horrifying that every one (except Mr.D and Chiron) cowered down. Chiron stood up and stared intently at Lauryn. " I've never seen Zeus bestow a replica of his shield to his children before. Of course it has been a few decades since we've had a child of the big three." Lauryn sat back down eager to avoid the attention. After all the commotion when down Chiron announced that we'd be having a capture the flag game on Friday. He also dismissed everyone but me. Austin looked at me sympathetically and walked away.

"Paige," he said, " I need you to tell me what exact monsters were chasing you and your friends." I told Chiron everything. Even about how my steel blade killed a gorgon/ugly sister. " That is very strange indeed." He said, " I've never heard of a mortal made blade killing monsters. Yet again, it may not have been steel." He looked up at me and studied me with his dark brown eyes. It seemed as if those eyes had seen everything. " Before I let you go I must warn you. Mr.D is not someone to take lightly. He is in fact, Dionysus. Do not make him angry" he said. " Oh and follow Austin to the Hermes cabin. You'll be sleeping there to night." I quickly thanked him and ran off to join my friends.

     Later the next few days I learned a bit of sword play, archery (which I completely stink at), and some emergency skills. Austin and Andy both got claimed. Apparently they are sons of Posidon. Austin received a three foot sword. Wile Andy received a 7 foot spear that changed to a shield.They both turn onto cylinders. I kept wondering: Why haven't I been claimed? It seemed a reasonable complaint.

Before I knew it friday arrived. At dinner everyone was buzzing with excitement. When we had finished Chiron waved his hand and armor and weapons filled the table. " Hero's!" Chiron said," You all know the rules! There will be no maiming, gagging, or bondages. There will be two teams. Blue is led by the Athena cabin, their alliances are Hermes, Aphrodite, Zeus, and Posidon. Red is led by the Ares cabin, their alliances are Dionysus, Demeter, Apollo, and Hephestus. All magic items allowed.". I looked over at the table and wondered which weapon I should take.

I was sorting through weapons when a brown haired Aphrodite girl came and helped me strap my armor. I instantly felt I bit of jealousy. I had always wanted brown hair. Because of those stupid jokes, you have to work twice as hard to get recognition for you're achievements." Hey," she said, " wanna team up?" " Um.... sure." I replied. I thought ," Why is she not hanging out with her siblings and checking her make-up.?" but something felt different about her. I quickly picked up a sword and a shield and ran out into the forest with the rest of the blue team.
