The fall was short. I landed right on my feet. Squinting my eyes, I looked up. The last Ray of light was gone.
My mind traced back to a memory, it was when a satyr had taught us a first aid sorta thing. It seemed stupid at the time. First step, look for immediate threats. There were none. Second step, scan surroundings. The walls were obviously made of hardened dirt, the air was musty and cold, There was a dark hallway, and there was a strange blue triangle etched into the wall.
Suddenly a cold wind blew through the cavern. I spun around to see what it was, but I only saw Lauryn's crumpled body. I dashed over, "Oh my- oh gosh." My lower lip trembled. I grabbed my knife and lay the sharp part just below her nose. For a moment nothing happened.
Then the blade fogged. I sighed, a huge lump of worry and anger left my chest. Lauryn was just unconscious, but where was Clark. Panic started to seize me. Again.
I got up and started looking for Clark.
Which started my lovely conversation...with myself.
What was I doing! Why did I stupidly run out and just- UGGH!
Why did I come up with this plan! I can't get to the south pole in just two weeks. Why am I actually helping this So-Called mother of mine. She didn't give birth to me, she just dropped me from her mind like a newborn giraffe! KER-PLOP!
The Greeks were Phyco anyway...I sat down on the ground and began to sob. I never wanted this. Who on earth would want the worry of Monsters killing you 24/7. Man, it's a miracle I can sleep at night ( not that it's better).
Suddenly a voice came out of the darkness. As it spoke, the cold wind returned.
"Don't worry child," it rasped,"we know where he isssssss."
I turned around, staring in the darkness.
I replied uncertainly ,"Y-you d-do?"
"Yesssssss. Just grab your friend and follow ussss."
I knew I shouldn't follow some creepy little voice but, if it gave me a chance to find Clark, I would do anything to find him. He saved me once, I'll return the favor. I dashed over to Lauryn. She was barely visible in the dim glow of the celestial bronze.
"Lauryn! Lauryn, wake up!" I whispered. I shook her shoulders. Nothing happened. I wanted to curse, but I had always been careful with my words. You never know what they might cost you.
I took one of her electric arrows, and gently poked her shoulder. She shot up as quick as lightning and nearly ran me through with one. Her nearly black hair was tangled and her blue eyes were sharp and clear, like raw lightning crackled inside them.
She took a deep breath, " What happened!" She demanded.
She sat as I told her what happened. When I finished she stood, "We have no time to lose then. Clark needs us. Let's go."
We jogged slowly through the tunnel. "It looks man-made."She wondered.
"No duh."
The sleek black walls began to lower, It made me feel VERY claustrophobic. Soon we were army crawling. The ceiling was too low to be on your knees.
"Did we go the wrong way?" Lauryn panted.
"I don't know." I admitted,"It said we should follow the hall."
" Wait, wait, wait. IT?" Lauryn thundered,"WE'RE FOLLOWING ORDERS FROM A MONSTER!"
" It was the only way to find Clark! What would you have done!" I exclaimed. Her anger melted away and was replaced with sadness.
She sighed. "Your right, I would have done the same. We need Clark."
Of course she had to choose the most honorable thing to say. She always did that.
We crawled like babies for the rest of it. Thank Zeus it was short. If we had been like that for more that 5 minutes, I would have gone hysterical. When we emerged from the...uh...holeway , We found another cave. This one was more sophisticated. The walls were made of crumbling marble only fastened together by a thin sheet of ice.
We looked up, and there was Clark. Upside down, and hanging by a few threads.
" What do we do now?" asked Lauryn.
"We need a plan." I whispered,"These monsters are expecting us to trick them. We need to fight."
"Wow. I never thought I would hear that." Lauryn muttered,"Especially from a daughter of Athena"
We quickly came up with a plan. I just hope they hadn't heard.
I ran under Clark as Lauryn shot an arrow at the string. He slammed down on top of me. Who knew Satyrs could be so heavy... The cold beings returned from the holeway yelling threats. One had a dagger and threw it at Lauryn. I screamed her name. But all she did was tap her bracelet.
I didn't process most of what happened. She just tapped her bracelet and then a huge shield appeared with the face of Medusa on it. The knife barely made a dent.
Using most of my strength, I tossed Clark to Lauryn. She caught his unconscious body easily, but nearly collapsed. "How is he so heavy!" She groaned.
"GO!" I yelled," GET OUT OF HERE! I'LL HOLD THEM OFF!"
"No! I'm not leaving you!"
"You have to!"
She started to argue again, but I shoved her out.
I turned around to face the floating swords.
Fighting won't work anymore.I dropped my knife.
"I'm not going to fight you." One of the swords jabbed closer
"Well then, the weaver will be pleased to hear that."
"What are you?" I asked.
"We're Sto-" one started
"OH MY HADES WILL YOU SHUT UP!" one bellowed.
This sparked an idea. They seemed to hate each other. Why not start a fight. Or fire
"Your storm spirits, aren't you." I said.
They replied yes, in unison.
"Well, you all seem so, so..." I racked my brains for an appropriate word,"uh....magnificent! Why don't you see who's the best?"
" Why would we do that?" the four rasped.
"To prove yourself." I replied," Arachne would definitely like to know who's the best." I had a good feeling about how this was going to end. "Let's say," I continued," the unworthy ones die and the winner declares himself king of all the storm spirits. And he personally gets to bring me to the weaver and gain all glory"
Fortunately they agreed.
Males can be so stupid.
I gave them names based off their weapons. There was Swordy, Dagger-o,Spearz, and knifey. They loved it. Soon I had them organized into pairs. Spearz and knifey, Dagger-o and Swordy.
As the fighting started, I got to sit and watch. Soon Spearz was eliminated along with Dagger-o. Their weapons lay on the floor. I stood up, brushed off my my camp shirt and put on my poker face. "Well," I boomed in my best announcer voice," the next fighting pair will be Swordy and Knifey! To the death!" As the two began to fight, I sliently prayed to Athena to let this plan work.
