5 and a half months later

Austin was the 3rd Warlock apart of Mikes little gang.  He was tall, handsome, blue-eyed, buff, blond, and had a scraggly beard.  His entire existence made Rose blush and nervous whenever he was in the same room as her.  Caspian and Rose were now your average Magicians who knew basic and some complicated spells.  Their break-in was supposed to take place tomorrow, at night time when most of the campus would be asleep.  "So we three will open a rift in their ward system which you two and slide into.  Now you guys will go into the library and locate the books using the locator spells you learned.  The last step is to slide back out and we are home free." Austin said without any emotion in his voice.  Rose batted her eyes and acted very attentive to the rehersal of the plan.  Amy piped up now, "The school is in New York, I've already made a portal from here to there, it's too far to just teleport there."  Everyone nodded and agreed.  This was the big moment, everything Rose and Caspian were trained to do.  They learned countless spells and rituals for this very purpose and once the job was done, they would be apart of the Warlocks.  Then Caspian remembered that that was not what Rose wanted.  She wanted to backstab their creators to be apart of Brakebills, the same school that kicked them out because they weren't talented enough.  But he would have to do what she wanted because they were a team and he couldn't continue learning magic without her at his side.  Over the course of 5 months they had developed a sibling bond, after all, they started this togther, and they were ending it like that too.  Mike went outside to smoke a cigarette while Rose followed.  "Can I get one?" she asked.  Rose and Mike had dropped a more mutual-respect type of relationship.  He handed it to her and they smoked in unison using a finger-flame spell to light it.  "Are you ready for tomorrow?" he asked her sincerely.  "As ready as I'll ever be.  This was basically my life's purpose." Mike just studied her and spoke again, "I know your planning on keeping the spells for yourselves and ditching us for Brakebills."  She froze, she didn't know wether to fight Mike or just walk away.  Or she could explain herself, which she really didn't wanna do.  Instead, she just took a puff of smoke and stared at Mike.  "I used a mind reading spell on you last month.  Both of you actually, I sensed something was up but Cas doesn't wanna leave, you do."  She was still silent and the cigarette was almost burning her fingers.  "Listen, I don't give a flying fuck what you two do.  As long as I get the spells, I'm good.  Just... just bring me the spells and you guys can go talk to the Dean or whatever you two have planned."  Mike threw his cigarette on the floor and it erupted in white hot fire.  Rose shook her head, she tried to forget the conversation but she couldn't.  She felt guilty and sad and embarrassed, these people were  her family.  No matter how annoying or condescending or how hot they were, she owed it all to them.  But Brakebills, man, that place was where it all started, it was like the source of all magic and if you wanted to be a real Magician you had to go there.  So of course, Rose had to go there.  But she could obey Mike's request, it was the least she could do for the Warlocks.  She made the cigarette disappear into thin air and she ported to Caspians apartment.
