-CHAPTER NINE: THREE'S A CROWD (Louis's POV)-
"I came here to talk, Shira. Can we?""You're joking, right?" Eleanor's voice was imploring and her eyes were wet with tears.
Louis could only look at the girl as guilt flooded him inside out. He swallowed hard before he replied, "N-no. I'm not…"
"What did I do wrong?" The girl fought her tears hard, but failed the moment she spoke. She clutched her shirt and pulled it down for support, but didn't seem to work one bit.
"It's not you, Eleanor… I—"
"It's not me, it's you, right? Then what's with you? Why are you breaking up with me?"
"I know this is hard for you, but it's hard for me, too, you know?" Louis started, shaking his head in frustration. "I'm so confused, I need time to sort things out!"
What started as a little statement turned into a violent declaration from the flame mage, enough for him to involuntarily release flames from his fists and make Eleanor step back.
"Can't we… Can't we sort this out together?" she pleaded.
"I'm sorry…" Louis said, now on his knees and cupping his head. "It's something I have to sort out on my own… I just don't understand my own feelings anymore…"
The girl knelt down in front of him and took him in her arms. "I'm sorry, Louis… I think I understand a bit now."
"What?" Louis looked up at the girl whose tears were now flowing down her eyes as if it were a fountain.
"It's about— you and Shira, right?" her voice trembled as she continued with her sentence. She loosened her embrace on him and completely sat on the ground weakly. "I had the feeling it would end up like this. I just didn't know… that it would end so soon…"
The girl's last statement made her wail, and she covered her face with both hands.
"I'm sorry, Eleanor… I really am…"
Louis weakly opened his eyes as he felt that the train had stopped. How many times had he played back that memory in his mind: five, maybe six times?
Yes, it was yesterday that he had decided to end everything between him and Eleanor. It went tolerably well, even though the girl didn't take it too well. Of course, he still had to comfort her and apologize many times until they were both able to smile like friends again.
Where was I supposed to go again? Louis thought to himself as he hurried out the train. He didn't want to take it again, that would be just unacceptable and torturous!
He rummaged in the pocket of his pants and took out a small, crumpled piece of paper; written on it were clearly written a direction. And Louis, inside his heart, knew where it will lead him: to Shira.
Louis put it back in his pocket and started to walk out of the station.
"Here we go… wait for me there Shira”
After asking a few locals, and pleading some others, Louis was finally able to find his way to the resort hotel where Shira and Harry were supposedly staying in. He got himself settled in one of the rooms (he rented the one between Harry and Shira's). Apparently, the two weren't in their rooms so he headed out to town to find them.
"But where could they possibly be?" Louis said. He rubbed his chin and pondered deeply until it hurt.
Walking some more, he found himself in front of an amusement park entrance.
