Chapter 17
3 weeks later -
“Wake up Sleeping Beauty! No pun intend of course” Hunter said, shaking me awake. I slowly open my eyes, his face right next to mine.
“There’s something called personal space you know.” I grumble, sitting up.
“Well excuse me for wanting the details about your date last night” Hunter says, bouncing up and down on my bed.
I roll my eyes.
“You are such a girl, seriously thats for Amber to freak out over” I say.
“If Amber knew.” Hunter said.
I sit silently, picking at my comforter. Amber and I haven’t spoken since that night we went to the beach. She’s been around Emma and Ana a lot more often. I knew thats where she wanted to be all along, all she had to do was drop my ass.
“Whatever.” I say, not meeting Hunter’s eyes.
I knew he would say I was being a bad friend, but at this point I wasn’t even sure Amber and I were friends. I had pushed her away too much, ignored her and was snappy. I would’ve stopped being friends with myself also if I had the choice.
“So tell me the details nowwww.” Hunter whines.
“Really? Now? I mean mom is probably cooking breakfast and-”
“You promised Aurora. I want to know how well he’s treating you because you… you matter to me.”
I sigh.
“We went to the beach and took a long walk.”
“Mhmmm and what did you guys do there” Hunter says, a sly smile creeps onto his face.
I smack him with a pillow, laughing.
“Shut up, all we did was kiss. We’ve only been dating for 3 weeks, I mean thats wayyyy to fast.”
Hunter shrugs.
“I guess.”
“You slept with Emma.” I said, although I was guessing.
“Maybe.”
“HUNTER!” I shriek.
“What? It was consensual!” He says.
I roll my eyes. “I hope so. Who knew?”
“Just Jason and obviously Emma… thats about it.”
“Is Jason…” I trail off.
It wasn’t really my place to ask Hunter, but I couldn’t help it. I still would’ve been a virgin if that son of a bitch Quinn didn’t rape me. Actually, none of this would have happened if I had fought harder. None of it.
“I think so. We always tried to hook him up but he’s all religious and shit. But maybe he was just waiting for, I don’t know, somebody he really liked I guess. I think it’s in his journal”
“You still have his journal?” I say, feeling myself go numb.
Hunter looks at me, and from seeing my horrified expression, says “Um no of course not…”
“Hunter you said you would put that back! Don’t you think he noticed?” I hiss, taking the blue book from his hands.
“Well not because he hasn’t mentioned it.”
“You really think he’s going to go up to Joey and Ranger and will say ‘yo guys, you see my blue book where I write down all my personal thoughts and feelings?’ Because I don’t!”
“Yo guys? Really? Thats not how we talk.”
“Who cares! Hunter you said-”
“I know. But Aurora, I think you should at least read some of it. Just a little. I think maybe you’ll get to know him better.” Hunter said.
He stood up, yawning. “I’m so glad it’s Saturday” he grumbles, climbing back into his sleeping bag.
I hadn’t even noticed the time: 4:45am. I look at Jason’s journal, wondering if I should read it or not. It was his private thoughts, not to mention he kept it secret from everyone, so he probably didn’t want anyone to look through it. But what if there was something that I needed to know in there? Jason wasn’t really open, especially after Hunter died. We were suppose to trust each other, if I read this it would make me a bad girlfriend, I would be going behind his back.
I guess that means I’ll never know whats in the journal.
