My eyes winced against the sunlight shinning through the curtains. I inhaled before opening my eyes and focusing on the curtains letting the sunlight leak through. I felt a warm arm across my waist and remembered the previous night. I pursed my lips as I tried to hide my blush. I slowly turned around, careful to not wake Carl up. I laid my head on the pillow as I stared at Carl. His eye gauze was slightly pushed to the side revealing the wound left by the bullet. He was asleep. "Good morning." He spoke. I furrowed my brow.
"I thought you were asleep." He smiled and opened his eye.
"I'm a light sleeper." He stated and moved his arm from my side to lace his fingers with mine. I smiled and stared at our hands in the center of us. "Are you feeling okay?" He asked softly. I blushed.
"Carl I'm okay, it doesn't hurt." Carl nodded then noticed his bandage was disheveled. He pulled his hand away and sat up. He tried to pull it back down but it needed to be changed. I sat up and grabbed his arm.
"Carl you need to change it." I stated. He avoided eye contact.
"I don't want you to see it." He whispered. I shook my head.
"Carl I love you, I don't care what it looks like. I'm here no matter what. Through anything." Carl made eye contact then paused for a moment before reaching over to his side table and pulling out some fresh gauze, vaseline, and ointment." He slowly reached up and pulled the bandage off. He pushed aside his hair so I could see. It had scabbed over leaving it dry and crackly. I smiled and raised my hand up to his face to slowly run my thumb down the outline of it.
"Does it hurt?" I asked.
"No." He replied softly. I nodded then leaned forward slowly and kissed the side of his head with the wound.
"Good." He smiled lightly as I picked up the ointment. "Where do I start?"
