Chapter 9

Nick dropped me off and I made my way home with my torn dress in hand.

Aliya was on the couch when she heard me come in. She turned to look at me and saw the dress in my hand. She jumped off and ran towards me. "Omg did you finally get your engine oiled? Did you knock one out? Try the bone? Wait! How was it? Tell me everything." She is excitedly mumbled.

"Relax! Didn't know there were so many ways to ask if I did it. And No, nothing happened" I replied. "After I crashed your session last night, I went to Nicks place to give you and my boss some privacy" I glared at her. I told her the whole story about Sophie and the breakfast in the morning.

"You like him don't you?" Aliya questioned.

I didn't reply because I wasn't sure myself. It was too early and I had too much baggage. Nick is dating Sophie and I am not the type to come in between two people. It was all too confusing.

Life got back to normal after the event, it felt like that night was a distant dream. Lina got back to the grind, work got much more busier. She was exhausted by the end of the day and her only saving grace was volunteering at the dog shelter. As much as she loved her work, going to those fur balls just made her day. The dogs made her feel whole, the stinky kisses and bounding balls happiness. She made a few friends at the dog shelter too, Joshua and Angele who were dating for 5 years now and loved dogs just like her. They have been working at the shelter for the past 2 years. They came here to adopt a dog and landed up volunteering, now they have two dogs. Then there was the cute and funny Ben, he was the owners son who helped and managed the shelter along with his parents. Forever the prankster. Joshua and Ben always had a prank up their sleeves, the volunteers had to constantly keep a watch. She didn't feel alone in this big city anymore and was glad she made some friends. Lina heads home after volunteering, bone tired after being on her feet all day. She needed to build her strength or soon the dogs would be walking her instead of her walking the dogs. There was no news from Nick all week, Mack made an off hand mention that Nick was away on a business trip. Lina knew she didn't need to be updated on his whereabouts but she felt glad that Nick wasn't ignoring her because of what happened last week and that he was genuinely busy.

By the end of the week in between going out for drinks with Joshua, Angele & Ben. Lina was helping Aliya pack for her to trip to Dubai. Aliya was excited and over the moon. She didn't know what clothes to take, they researched on what to do and what to wear. Hearing a lot of stories from other people she thought it would be restricting country, but it wasn't. She packed a few of her bikinis, the weather was perfect for it and the clubs there looked amazing.

"You will be ok to stay on your own yeah?" Aliya worriedly enquired.

"Yes, yes, I am not a baby. Don't worry. You have fun in Dubai and send me tons of pictures. Behave yourself too. Please come back in one piece." I said.

"Yeah yeah! Please move into my room and sleep on the bed, you will finally get a good nights rest. And if you're doing the nasty, please ensure his bodily fluids are not left behind ok?" she grinned.

We hugged and she got into her cab and left. I was all alone at home. No Nick. No Aliya. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself. But was too exhausted and dozed off on the couch.

Next morning I rushed out in a hurry, I was pretty sure I was going to be late to work today. I was 10 minutes late and I could hear Mack yelling at someone. He seemed to be in a sore mood, constantly yelling and pushing everyone harder than usual. The late nights and the insane pressure continued over the next few days, he wasn't going home and was in the office working long hours. I landed up staying back late to finish all the work that was thrown my way. I wondered if this change in him was because Aliya was not in town. Since I didn't have much to do either I was happy to stay back and help Mack.

The following night, Mack was going over some points for the project we were working on. It was late and I was exhausted, this whole week took a toll on me. All I wanted was a proper nights sleep and maybe some food. As I was about to excuse myself from Mack's office, Nick walks in. "Mack where the hell have you been man? I have been calling you all week" Nick asked. He then notices me and pauses. Suddenly all my exhaustion vanishes, he looked so deliciously tempting in that blue blazer. Felt like every inch of that blazer was made just for him.

"Lina, please can you excuse my mannerless friend and me, looks like he has something important to say. You can head home actually, it has been a long day" Mack quipped.

"Yes Mack. I will see you tomorrow then. Good night!" I responded

"Really Mack!"Nick grumbled "Both of them?"

"You never had a problem with who and how many I was sleeping with before" Mack joked. "Anyway ease your balls, we have just been working. Come to think of it she has been here late at night all week. I think I need to give her an off. She is a gem Nick, I tell you. She so intelligent and intuitive, unlike those bimbos before her. I think I have been missing Aliya too much, I might fly to Dubai to see her."

"Yes, Lina does look like she hasn't eaten or slept in a week" Nick pondered "You're an asshole Mack"

"Lina could you come in please" Mack called.

"So it was brought to my attention that I have been an asshole all week, I am thinking of taking a short trip to Dubai. For all the late nights this past week, why don't you take the next two days off. Recuperate." Mack continued

"Sure that would be nice" I responded. Glad to get some time off. I could finally go to the dog shelter it has been forever.

"I am on my way out, I could drop you home." Nick jumped in. "Why don't you give me 10 minutes to catch up with Mack and I will be right out"

I nodded and walked back to my desk to pack up.
