I woke up the next morning cuddled up to Lindsey, with Gerard's side of the bed made.. for the most part
I gently climbed out of the bed, trying not to wake Lindsey, then I slipped into the bathroom and changed into black skinny jeans and a white sweater with the letters 'ASL' on the front, and "American Sign Language. Support." on the back
"Weekend pancake report!" Gerard smiled at me as I walked into the kitchen
"Wow." I laughed, seeing Bandit at the table with a fork and knife, waiting patiently for her breakfast
"You like pancakes?" Gerard put some on her plate
I shook my head, "Ate too many in a contest one time and was sick for a week. Nah, pancakes and me don't really have a good relationship."
"Shame." He smiled, "We have cereal and other stuff. Help yourself."
I shrugged and sat down, smiling at Bandit
"What?" She giggled
I shrugged, "nothing."
"Okay...?" She continued eating
"Lindsey still asleep?" Gerard asked, playing with Bandit's hair as she ate
I nodded, "Yeah. Hey thanks for the couch and bed, but I'll be going."
"No you won't." Lindsey came out of the bedroom "Hey sweetie, can you stay out here for a minute? Daddy and I have to talk to Jessica." She smiled at Bandit
Bandit just nodded with her mouth full
Gerard grabbed my hand and we followed Lindsey back to the bedroom
"So." She smiled and sat on the couch
"So..?" I asked nervously
"Come on, sit down. I don't bite." She patted the seat next to her and Gerard sat on the coffee table in front of us
I sat down, nervous as hell. Lindsey and Gerard smiled at each other then turned to me
"Jessica, we care. We haven't known you for very long, but we want to help you." Gerard smiled at me
"Okay..?" I asked, confused
"We would like to, if you would like, adopt you." she smiled
"You're kidding, right?" I asked, shocked
"Not in the slightest."
I smiled, "But no one wants to adopt me."
"We do." Gerard stated seriously
"Okay." I smiled, trying not to cry
I clenched my teeth, I'd been down this road a few too many times. They say they'll help, but they don't. They don't check up on you, nothing. You fall in the awkward category of "Child." and "Hopeless case." Sometimes, you're just in storage. Then, they send you back to goodwill until another family comes to get you, then they return you. Eventually, the employees get tired of seeing your ratty ass and throw you out. I'm used to it.
"Now we will be checking up on you. We want you to feel comfortable. You can talk to us about literally ANYTHING. Girly stuff might be more for Lindsey, though." Gerard smiled and I giggled
"Yeah, lets keep that kind of stuff between us." She winked and I, again, giggled.
"If you want, we can get you into therapy. Only if you want. You wanna go to school? Tell us. Anything you want, it's yours. Except for boys. Boys aren't allowed. Period." Gerard winked
