About three weeks later, I was still figuring out my name. Gerard, Lindsey and I all had a family meeting about the school I want to go to. They read about it and such, and once I get my new name, they'll enroll me.
In that same family meeting, I got a therapist and a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. I'm on medication for it now, and I've gained ten healthy pounds.
The next day, Gerard, Mikey, Lindsey and Bandit threw a surprise, "Sorry we've missed 16 birthdays", party.
It was a nice turn out, I got that laptop I had glued in my "When I'm rich" scrap book. It was red and black, like the one in my favorite movie, "Cyberbully" with Emily Osment. I also got an iPhone from Lindsey, (the laptop was from Mikey), a "It's okay to do whatever you want with your room" card from Gerard and Lindsey both. Bandit gave me the doll she's had forever. Gerard, the kind and generous man he was, bought me my very own copy, of The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. Once he found out that I almost stole it from the library, he first told me that stealing is wrong, (He was such a dad sometimes), then promised me my very own copy.
Now, it's been a month and we're going down to the court to get my name changed.
"I got it." I smiled big, turning to Mikey whom was sitting in the backseat with Bandit in the middle of us
"You scare me sometimes." He furrowed his brow
"Your name?" Lindsey turned to us
"Yeah!"
"Okay, shoot."
"Beatrix. It means 'She whom brings happiness.'" I read from my phone
"That's beautiful. You still want your middle name to be Joy?" Lindsey smiled
"Yeah. Beatrix Joy Way." I chuckled "BJW."
"That'd get you some great points in Scrabble." Mikey smiled
"It sure would." I giggled scrunching up my nose
"I love it." Gerard smiled as we pulled into the parking lot of the court
"I haven't been to a court since I..." I turned to Bandit whom was staring at me smiling "Had volunteer duty."
"Nice save." Gerard opened my door for me
"Thanks." I sighed
"This is it." Lindsey grabbed my hand
"This is indeed it."
"Okay?" She turned to me, smiling. I let her borrow my copy of The Fault In Our Stars.. She read it all in one day then we sobbed together watching the trailer.
"Okay." I smiled, gripping her hand tighter.
Gerard walked up and grabbed Lindsey's free hand, and Bandit grabbed my free one. Mikey grabbed Bandit's, and I felt like we were the badass Ways. A family that people read about and wish they were us.
"Alright, make it quick." We walked up to the window after standing in line for about an hour.
"We'd like to change our daughter's name." Gerard smiled
"Okay, take this slip. Fill it out, then go into court room 13. Take a number and wait for it to be called. Parents and child only inside the court room. We're busy today." The crabby lady behind the corner handed us a piece of paper shortly before yelling, "NEXT" causing me to almost piss my pants.
"Well that wasn't rude." I sighed and we sat down
"Not in the slightest." Mikey smiled at me and Bandit played with the kid's toys in the infant/toddler room with Lindsey and other kids and parents
