It was nearing 10 Pm three days until thanksgiving and for some reason I was up, I couldn't sleep at all. No matter how much I closed my eyes and curled up to his warmth I just couldn't fucking sleep. When his phone went off I was somewhat grateful, I wouldn't be alone and awake.
"What ?" He said into the phone , he seemed intent on hearing every word the man on the other end said. I wonder of this had anything to do with where he and jungle had been all day. The walking in here well after six , told me not to cook so I didn't. We all went it bed without dinner maybe that's why I was so uneasy. I mostly slept today anyways. "Yeah. Handle that" Nas said before hanging up, he jumped out of bed and slid a hoodie on. He stopped realizing I was awake "oh you scared me" he said to me. "I can't sleep, are you gonna go out right now ?" I asked him "yeah I gotta go check something out" he told me.
"Can I come?" I asked him hoping he'd finally just met me tag along, he pulled me by my ankles until I was under him. "Nic if I take you out there with me I don't wanna hear anything about what I did because I keep telling yo ass to stay home" he said to me. I nodded happy to finally get to accompany him on one of his little adventures. "Okay" I said kissing him and getting up to get dressed, I put on black sweat pants and some random hoodie that was his. Who was really gonna see me, I put on some sneakers and he held my hand as we walked downstairs. We got into his car and started driving , I thought about what was left to buy for this dinner. I'd have to run and get some stuff the day of but that would be okay "Nasir" I randomly called his name out.
"Yes Onika"
"I dunno I just wanted to hear your voice" I admitted running my nails down the side of his face. He laughed a bit before he started to recite a poem from the book I had read to him the other night. "You remembered it ? Awe" I hushed wanting to hug him "it reminds me of you so I guess I just remembered it" he said nonchalantly. I hummed the rest of the way happy to be there while he ran his errands
"Are you sure there's no one you wanna invite to thanksgiving?" I asked him as he turned down a block. "No. Why you doing this anyways?" He asked me as the car stopped , "doing what?" I asked him while he reached into the back seat. "Tryna make us act like we normal , with the family bullshit facade" he said reaching under his seat pulling out a gun.
"It's not bullshit.""But it is, we don't got a family haven't for a decade why we pretending for one day ?" He asked me. I really didn't have an reasonable answer , other than me trying to re create a memory. "You don't appreciate what I'm trying to do for you " I snapped sighing "if you don't wanna have a nice holiday then fine don't come. I don't have to try and do something really nice for a nigga who won't appreciate it" I said folding my arms. He was silent as if he had ignored me , I heard him load the magazine into his gun before he spoke. "Come or stay in the car mad , by yourself , in the middle of Brooklyn at damn near midnight" he said to me. The last place I wanted to be was right next to him I regret asking to come, I got out and followed him inside a large building. It was clearly abandoned and lacked clean surfaces. Why would he need to be here so late a night , I wanted to ask so many questions but every time I looked at his head I wanted to kick him in it. We walked for a while and I still couldn't tell what this place used to be. We eventually stopped in one room that have a bunch of stoves , I noticed everywhere in here was clean despite it looking ransacked. The floor was white and the stoves were too. Broken glass and ripped up palate seemed to be everywhere. Turned over pots and scales and what I assumed to be drugs were on the floor. I gasped at a crushing piece of glass under my shoe and her quickly turned to look at me. Was I too loud ? I just stared back innocently until he turned around again, he began to start cursing. Pulling out his phone he made a call , "stop wandering" he told me as I lingered by a stove with gold stuff on it. I walked back to where he could see me and just looked around. This was his "spot" where they made their drugs , or some of it at least I don't know what I expected a drug lords crack kitchen to look like. He hung up the phone after an instruction I was very sure meant he was going to kill someone. He brushed past me and put of the room and I followed behind as we walked to another one. I stayed in the hall until he turned on a light switch and then I walked in close behind him like the other too. Broken glass was everywhere. This place was creepy as fuck , but maybe that was the point so nobody was snoop around in it.
