"Hey, Dick." I waved, as I walked down the street. He skateboarded past, stopping ahead of me when he realized it was me.

"Hey Emma!" He smiled, "fancy seeing you here."

I face-palmed, slipping my book in between my arm and my body to do so. "If you knew me at all, Mr Grayson, you'd know I live here. Except, you go to your manor with your demon brother in a limousine."

"It's not my fault!" Dick groaned, and I smiled a bit. Dick knew where I lived, he just never went home by himself. It was weird how that was, since I had been to his home, Wayne Manor, hundreds of times.

It was there where I spent my time comforting him. When Jason died in an explosion the Joker rigged, and Batman never made it in time. We were only 15 then, and he was only 14. Jason was like a little brother to him, even though he was kind of a jerk. I hoped that he'd never had to go through that again. I mean, what was worse than losing your entire family in one night, and then losing your brother 6 years later?

Apparently, it could get worse. Four years later, Tim was sent to a mental institute. The Joker had something against the Wayne 'family', and had broken poor Tim's mind. And then, it got worst. Our best friend, Barbara Gordon, the daughter of the commissioner, had been exposed as Batgirl, after she was kicked off a building by Scarecrow. Poor Dick had lost two brothers and an ex-girlfriend, and only had his new brother, Damien Wayne, the actual son of Bruce Wayne, to compensate.

"Em? Emma!" Dick shouted, waving a hand at my face.

"Sorry, I was... thinking." I replied, as he brushed my hair from my face. "Dick, don't do that. I'm not your girlfriend. Don't you have some girl to pick up, dog?"

"Not tonight. Bruce needs me for some special event. Catch you tomorrow?" He saluted. "I'll be whelmed if you finish your assignment."

"Bye Dick!" I yelled back as he skated away, and I remembered how we had met. I had moved from Central City when I was 13, and my friend, Wally, who was 15 then, introduced me to Barbara and Dick. Don't call him Richard. He's a dick, so we call him Dick. He doesn't mind. I guess Gotham City wasn't the only one with the superheroes and friends dying. Wally went missing when he was 21, just a few months before Tim went insane. His girlfriend, Artemis, was left a crying mess for months afterwards. Dick had a cruel life, and I only hoped that Damien wouldn't be taken away too.

I stepped into my apartment, smiling as it picture-perfectly neat. I was now a 21 year old University student, and thankfully, I was still in the same uni as Dick. Two of his friends from Happy Harbor, Megan and Conner, would visit from time to time, and would stay at my apartment. According to Damien, Bruce could adopt three children and raise his own, but he couldn't let guests stay over. Figures.

As I sat at my desk tapping, I watched as night fell. Dinner was a slice of microwaved pizza, and to the outside world, my apartment was quiet, and I was sleeping. Too bad, it wasn't. I geared up, a river of silver energy trickling up my sleeve as my suit layered on top of me. I guess the fact that Barbara was Batgirl gave me the courage to help the city. I became a vigilante, one of the only ones that didn't work with the Bat Family. The Bat Family never saved Tim, never saved Jason, and might as well killed Babs. I wouldn't work with them.

So I became a solo vigilante. I became Eclipse.

My abilities were strange. It was like I had a Green-Lantern ring, but I didn't need a ring, it came from my hands. And when I formed items, they would turn pitch black, which hence gave me the name 'Eclipse', I was nothing but a flicker of silver light before it faded into darkness when the moon covered the sun.
