We launched to the ground, me protectively wrapping my arms around Emma, who pushed me off immediately. "Disable the power dampeners, you idiot!" She whisper-yelled at me, and I complied, taking out a few batarangs and flinging them, and I watched as the lights dimmed. Emma's palms sparkled with silver, and she grinned. "Finally."
She tore of her dress, revealing her naked -nah, that's just my dirty mind. It revealed her normal Eclipse garb, just a skin tight suit similar to Catwoman's, just without the cat cowl and claws. She put her palm against me, and I found myself in my usual Nightwing spandex, but instead of a blue bird in the front, the bird was grey. "Wrong color, Eclipse!"
She sent me a glare. "I still have your batons, Nightwing. Shut up." She threw them to me, and we hurried off the seen, helping all the other ball members up in the chaos. The ballroom was filled with smoke and dust, and broken tables and champagne glasses littered the room. A small figure flew around, and seeing us, came closer. Karen.
"Nightwing, where's Miss Martian? Why hasn't she set up the mental link yet?" she whispered, Guardian soon running to catch up. A spell was yelled, and we watched as Traci rise above the chaos, her mystic shields protecting the innocent ball members from the incoming attack. Armed men came in, each with strangely red powered weapons.
I looked around. "The fire! The fire is limiting her abilities. Those weapons, they seem, oddly familiar?"
"They're Apokoliptan weapons!" Conner yelled, carrying a sluggish Megan. "We had a run in with Whisper and Ugly before. Someone left them unresponsive and drooling when we went to deal with the merged golem. Last time we went up against people with Apokoliptan weapons, we had the Forever people on our side!"
"Forever people? I didn't read that when I was going through the old case files." Emma added, blocking more energy blasts being fired. Her silver energy formed a small grey fox, which came to life, and went to attack the intruders.
Conner jumped, smashing in the heads of several of the enemy, before he yelled back, "they're the people who made Sphere! Do you know about the Bialya mission against Psimon? When they wiped our minds?"
"And sphere was rescued alongside you after being transported from another place? Yeah!" She shouted, still concentrating on protecting the innocent. "What does that have to do with these people again?"
"This makes no sense! Why would people with Apokoliptan weapons attack Luthor! They all work for the Light? I found intel that when Savage took the Warworld, he went to Apokolips, and made an alliance with one of the New Gods there. Darkseid, I think it was. Psimon works for Queen Bee, who works with Luthor!" Conner tried to cut in.
"We'll find out why later. Now, let's just deal with these thugs." I said, before static erupted in my ears. I looked at Emma, who looked around innocently. She had put my comms in as well when she gave me my suit.
"Nightwing, last time I checked, you refused the mantel of Team leader. This means that you are not allowed to issue commands to my Team." Kaldur's voice crackled in my ears.
"You're the Team Leader, and I'm the Field Leader. You're not in battle right now, so let's just get this finished." I groaned. Kaldur would often laugh at me about the fact that I was still a bit used to be in control on field assignments. Not the mocking laughter, just friendly, companion laughter. Kaldur found it hard to laugh and find humor these days, so I played along, in hope his heart would heal.
"That was sorta mean, Nightwing." Emma said, before launching a perfect kick over my head, knocking out the man behind me.
"I had that." I complained.
