Chapter One

It's already bothersome that I had to deal with idiots from school everyday but having to wake up early too, made it worse. I like to think I'm that cool person who's awake, late at night playing games or creating a masterpiece....though, more accurately I'd be the friend who can be associated with a raccoon. The morning started off lazily, as dragging out of bed at 9:15. My Mom had been blasting my phone with calls since eight. I love my Mom, I would do anything for her, it's just that sometimes, her timing can be so bad for calls, today I must say thanks to her because I won't miss my lectures for the day.

The morning hygiene routine went by smoothly, I'm already late once and rushing doesn't change that fact. I had figured that it wouldn't hurt to make a quick cup of coffee and carry it with me in a small thermos, a gift from Mom. I should make some muffins and carry them for her.

..........

The distance from my shared apartment to my University building isn't far, though today called for a bit of pep in my step, as I had missed the first lecture with Mrs. Mapdle. The architecture of the building is pleasing to look at, even with my untrained eyes I can tell of it's beauty with tall, aged columns connected by segmental arches and belfry. Lush greenery and open fields, decorated with flower shrubs and scattered weeping willow trees. 'Boy, oh boy..the amount of maintaining..'

*clik.. clik.. clik.. clik*

I can hear the sound of heels slowly getting closer to me, I brushed it off as another student, possibly trying to move onto another class before the bell strikes and the swarm is released. It's easy to get lost in this place, and when I say that, I don't mean getting lost like making a wrong turn down a corridor you've never went down before and can't tell the west wing from the east. It's the kind of lost where, you get lost in the emptiness of your soul, where time goes by, but you're still stuck in last month. A painful sort of beauty that you don't recognize until it's too late to turn back.

"Bee?" Katya's voice pulls me from my thoughts, as her warm hand is placed on my shoulder. "Bea, are you okay?"

"Yeah," I smiled at her, hopefully she feels reassured that I'm fine. "Hey Kat, is something wrong?"

Katya is one of my best friends, she's been by my side for as long as I can remember. She makes me feel as though, I'm accepted. By her side, I can be myself and not who I'm expected to be. I love her so much.

"It's nothing, I just feel as though you spaced out for a moment, I called out to you twice and you didn't say anything," Her eyes glossed with worry, a small frown upon her lips. "Had me worried for a second." Kat took up my hands within her own.

I gave her my best smile, I have no words to give as a response. I don't want her to worry but I also have no interest in lying to Katya. I care about her too much for that childish nonsense. Gently pulling her along, I continued to walk along as we'd been standing her for a moment and I'm sure she has more lectures today, I know I do.

"Putting me aside, is there anything new with you?" Attempting to change the topic, knowing she won't pry. "What's been going on, seeing as I have been a bit M.I.A."

I watched her eyebrows furrow at me, annoyed but I can accent that. I would prefer her to be bothered by my changing of topic, than her to be worried about me. It might be unhealthy of me to wish she'd rely on me when I know I won't do it to her, in fear of burdening her. But I like to think I do it out of love for her and my wanting to protect her.

We kept a steady pace to the common area, taking a seat at one of the tables. Kat sat beside me, with her hand still in mine.

"Oh? There's nothing that's totally new. Just a few parties here and there, clubs and hook-ups," Trailing off, as if trying to gather her thoughts to give me a proper summary of what I'd missed. "Oh! I ran into Rowen. You remember him, right?" She wore a shit-eating grin, inter-locking her fingers in with my own.
