"Where were you, yesterday?"

Cat's constant questioning of my whereabouts made me feel...annoyed at my best friend. I know she's looking out for me but when I said I was with Brandon. She just wouldn't shut up!

"For the last time, we were at school!"

"Yeah, I got that. But doing what? And so late might I add," Cat slurred slyly as she gave my behind a harsh slap. "Maybe the dirty deeds, but then again...what do I know? My best friend doesn't trust me enough to spill the deets." She shrugged as she slowly tiptoed away.

Before I could say anything to the feignedly saddened, I felt a warmth push up and wrap around my hips.

"I wouldn't say we did the deed, but it was close." Brandon's voice run softly in my ear, still loud enough for the sneaky kitty to hear.

Out of instinct, my hands flew up, covering my heated cheeks away from Cat's prying eyes. Brandon's nose tickled me as his face rested in the crook of my neck, I could feel the smile on his lips. I felt insecure about this wile situation, that and all the students in the halls had no decency to mind their own business. I began to shake Brandon's arms from around me as I heard my name ring out through the halls.

"Isabella! Morning, have you heard from Matthew?" Savannah asked as she came to a stop.

"No, what's wrong?" I spoke, attempting to pry Brandon's arms away.

"Meet me after school by the almond tree. There's something you need to know..." Savannah told me with the most unnerving tone.

"It was really weird, she came out of no where asking if I heard from Matt. I haven't heard from him in the past two weeks, and now I'm worried that something happened. What do I do?.. Cat? Cat!"

The palm of my hands shook frantically in front of my best friends' face, her eyes were blank as she continuously stared into the swirling ceiling fan. Her blatant response of not caring was obvious but that's not what bothered me. Why was Savannah looking for Matt? And better yet, where was he truly?

"Are you still upset about not telling you what happened yesterday?" I pressed, knowing that's why she's ignoring me.

Cat continued to bless me with her silence, it's amazing. The times when she should be this quiet, she's the loudest one to be heard. I exhaled sharply as I lightly slapped my cheeks, the frustration of it all was starting to become unbearable.

"I'm not mad about that, I'm thinking about Matt going missing. I haven't heard from him since... Before you got put in a hospital bed. Bell, something's wrong." Cat's voice resounded from my lap, her body shuffling to snug herself in my stomach.

"All I got from Savannah is that he attracted some attention from the wrong crowd at The Devil's Pub."

"The Devil's Pub?" Cat's eyebrows were furrowed as she openly ransacked her brain.

"Yeah, the owner is a friend of Bryce. Savannah ask Bryce for some help but the owner didn't know much, so he asked to keep an eye out."

"Urgh, what is this? Some crappy mafia novel?" Cat groaned, raising from my lap to stand.

"If so. Then Matt could be dead."

Cat swiftly turned to me, her eyes dark and empty as a big frown laid on her lips. I shrugged as I grabbed my books beside me and made my way out the Library, listening to the soft clacks of her flats running up behind me.

"Don't make those kinds of jokes, I don't like the idea of knowing that Matthew could be dead!" Cat called out, running up to me.

"Woah, chill. I wasn't being serious, this is the real world, not a book written by some teenage chick." I assured her, sometimes I worry for this redhead of mine.

"You're right. I guess the only thing that would make it seem so is the insane amount of tattoos the owner has, who's ironically, the bartender. I mean holy heaven!"

"Tattoos? You mean Lucifer's the owner of The Devil's Pub?"

"That's not the name of that place, it's called 'Gehenna'." Cat explained.

"Gehenna? What's that?"

"Japanese demonic realm or perhaps, Hell." Cat shrugged with a knowing smirk, I want to wipe that smirk off her face.

"Yeah right, you heard that in an anime. I watched that same show with you, don't give me that bullshit!" I laughed, almost doubling over.

"Come on, you don't know that. We never researched it and besides, why else would the guy name his bar that?" Her eyebrow quirks and I frown. "Exactly." She finished.

Cat giggled as we continued out to the pastry shop near the Library, as soon as we enter the little homey shop, the scent of cinnamon engulfs us both. I sighed softly in content with the cozy atmosphere and delectably delicious scent, Cat smiles at me as though she's thinking the same thing as I.

"Welcome, what can I get you two lovely young women this evening?" A young waiter asks as he slowly walks up to our window booth.

The other costumers were scattered about, enjoying the aroma and their meals. The jazz played at a low volume, Cat's leg kicked me out of my trance as the young fellow gave me a nervous grin. Oh crap, I've been staring at him this whole time!

"S-sorry! I- uh, Cat?" I stuttered, trying to think of what to do but retreated by asking Cat for help.

"Just get us two parfaits, one chocolate and the other; caramel." Cat smiled, her red hair flowing down as she shuffled in her seat. The chocolate brown eyed boy stayed for another minute, jotting down the order before leaving. "Are you okay?" Her question was directed at me.

"Hu- Yeah, I'm fine. I just got a bit lost in the atmosphere for a while." I laughed nervously, clamping my palm on my nape.

"I could tell, though you seemed pretty infatuated with his eyes." She chuckled and I smiled. "Wha- But you have Brandon."

"I was just momentarily reminded of my doctor while I stayed at the hospital, is all." I quickly murmured and her eyebrows quirked in curiosity and disappointment of the possible secret that I kept from her.

"Well..." I trailed, looking at every possible object and not Cat's eyes. "I had a small fling with my doctor, but it's okay! We agreed on the knowledge of our unlikely relationship!... I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner.." My eyes catch hers and I stayed glued to them as she looked at me blankly and remained silent.

"Here are the parfaits, I'm required to ask if you'd like any syrup o- Uh..." The waiter returned in cheers but that slowly crumbled upon seeing Cat's expression. She looks about ready to yell the nastiest profanities she knew.

"We'll take those to go, if that's okay." She says. Uh-Oh.
