Befriend the School Staff

Teachers, clinic nurses, main office workers, librarians, and staff in general. They will SAVE your life one day.

Whenever there is an emergency, the way your relationship with the "adults in charge" can make or break your success. If you need to type an essay in the media center during lunch because it's due in your next period, the librarians will be less likely to hassle you about what you're doing if you've been nice to them and have been considerate of the the library/media center when you've visited in the past. Especially when trying to get applications out for scholarships, appointments in guidance about grades, late letters of recommendation, etc. If the teachers and staff have gotten to know you, even if they think you're a class clown, they'll still have a fondness towards you.

Be on friendly terms with the school staff. You'll be thankful you have when crises arrive (and believe me, they do).
