Kennedy stood by the doorway as she watched Violet take Lyle's temperature. Lyle had managed to come back just after Kennedy and Noodle's talk, and he looked like hell. Kennedy chewed on her fingernails.
"His heart's beating like a drum." The coach said as he took Lyle's pulse.
"But he doesn't have a fever." Violet said. "He doesn't have a cough or anything like a normal sick person."
"That is not a normal sick person." Grover chimed in.
"The kid needs a hospital." The coach said once again as he stood up.
"That is if the hospital is even there." Kennedy chimed in as she walked out. She made her way out of the cellar and up back into the school.
------------------------------------
Everybody else that had gone out into the haze came back looking just as bad as Lyle did. Kennedy stood in the cellar once again as they tried to figure out what was wrong with everybody. Kennedy sat next to Lyle as she traced his hand, something she did to both Diesel and Lyle before to calm nightmare's they've had.
Diesel was upstairs doing whatever he was doing, refusing to come into the cellar because he didn't like the feeling of being down there.
"So, if you were dating Diesel, what about him?" Noodle asked, referring to Lyle.
"Just friends. Really close friends. Him and Diesel were pretty much my bodyguards. My parents are both dead but even when they were alive, they did nothing for me. It was always Diesel and Lyle."
Kennedy looked up as the coach told everybody to get some sleep. She didn't bother being told twice and made her way upstairs to find Diesel in the same room they previously slept in. Diesel had dragged in another mat, so he and Kennedy didn't have to share.
"You need to sleep and don't fight me about it." Diesel said from where he was laying. Kennedy fought back the emotion and lay down beside Diesel. There the two fell asleep.

Kennedy sat in the bathroom in one of the stalls as she listened to Natalie and Zoey's argument. After Natalie walked out, Kennedy walked out of the stall causing Zoey to look at her.
"If it makes you feel better, I've taken the heat for quite a few of my friends." Kennedy said as she walked out of the bathroom. Kennedy made her way to the art room and was happy to see that everything was still there. She sat down and let out a deep breath. Kennedy found the paint and set everything up. She then started to paint whatever she could think of. Kennedy hadn't realized how much time had passed until Diesel walked in. She turned around to look at him.
"We have a problem." Diesel said.
"What problem?" Kennedy asked.
----------------------------
The group stood around in the teacher's lounge as Grover and Mary told them what happened. Kennedy didn't know what to think about what they were saying.
"Did you see Lyle?" Diesel asked.
"We know he was in the shelter, and no one down there was okay." Grove replied. Kennedy put her hand on Diesel's shoulder and then he looked at her as she walked out. Kennedy made her way to a classroom. Once inside, she shut the door and immediately started to tear up the classroom, tearing up books, papers, anything she could get her hands.
Before she had realized what she had done, Kennedy smashed a glass mug, cutting her palm.
"Kennedy!" Kennedy stopped and looked up to see Diesel standing there. "I'm still here." Kennedy breathed deeply as the tears poured down her cheek. Kennedy looked down at her hand to see blood coming out of the cut. "Go get that cleaned and fixed up." Kennedy walked out of the classroom and made her way to the nurse's office. Diesel looked for what Kennedy needed and found the peroxide, some gauze, and wrap.
