Soo we also had to write this, again for english class. Im slightly proud of it though! We were forced to make ourselves as the main character though...
Once there was a land, not so different from our own, but with one distinct difference. There was magic. The land was full of it, people dueling, cenutars frolicing in the fields. Everything was great. But as the years passed, the people of the land gradually forgot how to use the magic, until there was only one person who could remember how. And now he is training another.
"Annika! Come here you insolent fool!" Annika''s master and brother, Colby shouted from above.
"Coming, Coming, geez with all your yelling you'd think I messed up big time!" She replied, her voice progressively getting softer. Dakota sprinted up the narrow, winding path that she knew so well towards her master.
"You're late. You know I don't like to be kept waiting," He drawled, his voice taking a dangerous edge. Dakota shiver at that. Even though she had been his official apprentice for almost a full year he never seemed to have warmed up to her. In fact he seemed even harsher as her training progressed. It was as if he saw her as a tool, and not a sister.
"Well if you're done zoning out we got work to do. The dam near the east side of town is in bad repair, be a lamb and we can go fix it," By 'we' he means me. All he does is 'supervise me' which end up being him taking a nap underneath a tree. The pair made their way down the small creek that flowed nearby. All the streams in the area flowed toward the dam, so this was a sure fire way of not getting lost.
"Annika, do you have your hat?" Master Colby said suddenly, breaking the sweet, sweet silence that had formed over them.
"Of course dear Master! How could I ever forget the thing that makes me able to channel magic in the first place! That would be so silly of me!" The girl replied, sarcasm filling her voice. Colby mumbled, clearly done with his younger sister. With that distraction dealt with, Annika was free to enjoy the sounds of the forest around them. The gentle stream burbled beside their rhythmic footsteps, slowly but surely growing louder as more water trickled into it. The birds occasionally called to each other, bringing a peaceful aura to the whole scene. That's when they arrived.
"Well isn't it my favorite pair of master and apprentice! Here to fix this leaky old thing arancha?" A heavily accented voice called out cheerily. A portly man hustled toward the pair, out of breath. He seemed normal enough to me at least.
"Well, let's get to work then," Colby said, pushing past Annika who had paused to make small talk with the man, whose name was David. "You haven't worked with water magic of this force yet, have you Annika," Her master asked her.
"Not really, you know most of the water magic I use is for smaller projects." Annika replied sheepishly. Master Colby stepped soundlessly to the base of the dam, which looked like it would snap at any second. Suddenly his gloves, which he uses a magic conductor, glowed a soft green. The bottom pieces of rotted wood seemed to be reversed in time, making them look brand new. But it didn't stop there. The look on her master's face scared her, a look of pure terror. He wasn't the one in control. Thunder clapped as power poured from his hands. Smoke swirled around us, getting thicker and swirled faster every second. Annika, knowing she had to do something, grabbed her conductor, a fedora, from her backpack. She remembered reading about this in the textbooks they had at home, the conductor possessing the user. The cure? Knocking the user unconscious. Very hard when you can't even stand up within a 10 foot radius of them. hi
"Brother! Stand still! I'm going to try to help!" Annika shouted over the wind.
"No! Get out of here! It's too dangerous! I couldn't stand it if I hurt you!" He shouted back, his voice almost drowned out by the wind.Annika, without paying heed to her brother's words, started crawling towards him, hat in hand. Suddenly, a violent bolt of lightning struck down where Annika was moments before. Annika shoved the fedora on her head and pulled at the currents of magic flowing around them, drawn by Colby's magic. Using magic is like a sponge absorbing water, it soaks up slowly but when you squeeze it it come out all at once in a flood. Annika aimed a shot of pure energy at her brother's shoulder, the place where he would take the least amount of damage. Annika summoned a glowing orb of energy and fired it, not missing a beat. The shot was quickly absorbed by the swirling cloud of energy around him. In retaliation, the gloves sent a bigger ball of energy hurling back at her. But this time it made contact. Annika was thrown back into a tree 10 feet away. The searing pain of the magic and the sharp stab of the contact with the tree left Annika breathless. What was she going to do? She can't just leave him here like this! Annika sagged into the tree, her thoughts becoming a blur. The tree. Trees can't be absorbed my magic! Annika staggered to her feet, face filled with newfound determination. Using the rest of her energy, she pulled the tree she was previously laying on out of the ground, roots still clumped with mud and dirt. After a few seconds of hovering the tree soared over into the cloud, which in a matter of seconds disappeared. She had done it! In the end every thing ended up ok, even though David was sacred hot of his mind. Annika scampered over to her brother and carried him back to the cabin in which the day had begun. Without the gloves on of course, that would be an accident waiting to happen.
