Through the long, tedious flight. I was starting to think of L more often now. I feel as though his death has turned me bitter. Something he would usually lecture me about. I turned my head to look out the window. The plane should be landing now.
My calculations were proven correct when the pilot announced that we would be landing in a few minutes. For once, through these long months of being depressed, I felt excited. I was going to meet L's successors. Something I didn't know that he had nor that existed. a bitter sweet smile fell on my face. There were lots of things I didn't know about my brother yet his death made a turn for the worst in my life. How quaint.
I was in no rush to go to Wammys. Instead, I looked around my new hotel room. Before I boarded the flight I had made arrangements at this four star hotel. I would've picked to stay at a five star, but it didn't feel right spending so much of my brothers money on a hotel that I'm going to stay at for at least a week.
Classy was the only word in my vocabulary that could describe my room. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the large king sized bed covered in a tiger striped cover. The pillows seemed soft an fluffy so I shouldn't have any problem sleeping tonight. As I turned to inspect the room my eyes caught sight of a large window almost as big as the wall. The only thing that covered it were the large tan curtains. Good thing I was on the tenth floor or perverts would try to take a look inside.
I shuddered at the thought, but quickly regained my composure. I smiled slightly at the silence that filled the air around me. It was peaceful, along with the magnificent sun kissed painted walls that surrounded me. I removed my white Nike sneakers and strolled my way over to the couch. All in all, I liked this place. It seemed nice. Decent even. Hell, I might just consider living in England.
The high pitch sound of my phone ringing pulled me out of my daze. I stood up and walked over to my bags, perfectly aware that my cellphone was zipped in a hidden compartment. I flipped my phone open and pressed the talk button. Of, course, it had to be my worrisome mother. I really shouldn't bad mouth her like this.
"Are you okay, Matsu?" Why wouldn't be?
"Yeah, Mom." I replied, taking a seat on the soft mattress. "I'm just enjoying the comforts of an England hotel."
She chuckled. I couldn't help but smile. It was nice to hear her laugh instead of crying all the time. "Good. Just be safe."
"Alright. Just try to have some fun while I'm gone, mother. This is only a business trip. Besides," I added, "I'm just meeting up with an old friend." Well that wasn't entirely a lie . . .
"OK. Love you."
"Love you too, mother." I hung the phone up after the line went dead. I looked over at my packed bags. I bit my lip. Boy was this gonna be a long process.
