Denim pants, In blue
That last part is important
Because it comes in a lot more colors now
When I first started wearing them
They could be light, blue, or black
And they could be distressed
But I only ever wore them blue
With maybe some embellishments
On the pockets
Or a nice thick colored stitch
But the pant itself must be
Denim, In blue!
The decoration celebrated my femininity
In the only way I wished to
When I first started wearing all these denim pants, In blue
Because boys were looking at my body
In ways I didn't care for
And it had started forming shapes
In ways I hadn't dared think to ask
But with all the looking and shaping
And all that could be found on display
And with the way women who looked like me
Were sexualized on T.V.
The best thing I could do for my womanhood
Was put on a simple denim pant, In blue!
