The bright lights of a lamp shining the way into this world
The not quite pink of your face
The fine hair that lines your head and the smell of infants –
The smell of them
The first time you really see my face and smile
The whole of your face when I tell you there’s another baby on the way
When we welcomed your sister to the world
The soft kisses of the “I’m sorry” face
And the hugs of comfort
The many years we still have ahead
With no one left behind
And names safe inside each other’s mouths
