"Hello?" I start flailing my arms around, in search of a body. The voice starts to mumble, it's soft and monotone tune riding on the wind.
"Where are you, I can't see clearly..." I squint my eyes, hoping that it will help me to see through the swirling clouds of mist. I still see nothing except a faint glimmer of light that hovers one metre above the ground. I call out again and the light starts flickering like an eye blinking. I rub my eyes once, twice, thrice and then I stared at the light again... except this time, there were two, and they hovered one and a half metres up from the ground now, still flickering lazily. Although the rain battered my head and the cobbles beneath my feet keep tripping me up with their uneven edges, I shuffled down the garden. If there was a person in my garden, I should help them and keep them from the storm. I persevered as the gusts of wind threw me back. I covered my face with one arm, and reached out with my other, hoping that the person would have enough sense to grab me if I neared them.I took two more steps and again, a voice whispered directly into my ear.
"Why? You're abode is in the other direction..."
I spin around as quickly as possible, and there, towering before me, stands a creature... so human like but yet something far more godly. The fog seemed to be deterred from the being and repelled like the ripples of the water on Lake Superior. It's calm but powerful aura seemed to seep from it's pores and a faint golden light emitted from it's large, amber eyes. It frowned at me; not a frown of disappointment but a frown of confusion. I gawped at it, rubbed my eyes for the fourth time and then took two large steps back.
It began to speak."I..." it began, "am an angel sent from the sky." It lifted one hand to the grim clouds above, mist parting and splitting as the 'angel' repelled it. Impulsively, I looked to it's head. I expected there to be a golden, glowing halo lingering above the head of red curls that seemed to spring with life. But yet, no halo (or wings, for that matter), seemed to be present. My head instinctively tilted to the right, the way it always does when I'm confused...
"You have no halo... or wings?" I gestured to it's head as I lowered mine, guarding my face from all the rain that was starting to be fired my way after bouncing off the 'angel's' weather force-field. It cringed and it's face twitched, revealing a faint expression of anguish or trauma.
"Did I say why I was sent?" The 'angel' lowers his face and starts talking in a spiteful tone, "Don't point out things if you don't know the context or reason for them either being existent or non-existent..."
I apologised coyly, "Sorry." I began to walk towards my house. A large hand gripped my shoulder, long fingers dug into my flesh.
It asks, "Can I stay in your home until the storm is over?"
I nod and continue to drag my feet back towards the building, the heavy presence of the 'angel' hanging in the air.
