Emma's POV

"Get the hell away from her!"

The voice erupts from the midst of the crowd surrounding me and silence immediately fills the courtyard, except for my deafening scream that continues to echo. Despite the pain that's piercing each and every one of my veins, I allow my eyes to travel to the source of the noise.

Now I hadn't known this at the moment, but this was one of the biggest points in my life. The first time my eyes were laid on Prince Xavier of the vampires. But of course, as I said, I hadn't known this at the time.

So all I see when I look at him is a shadowed figure sitting next to the king like a child wearing a costume. But then when the light was finally cast back on his face, my breath caught in my throat. The first thing I register is his eyes. They glisten with the light of innocence but his face holds a murderous look that is sharp enough to cut glass.

I hold his gaze in mine for what seems like an hour until finally, he looks back down to face the piercing glare of his father.

I barely make out him saying, "father, this is going too far. We're vampires, we don't have to be killers!"

I thought that vampires were killers so has this extremely attractive, dreamy, gorgeous- never mind. Has this boy been living in a hole all his life?
Maybe he has since I've never seen him before. If anything shouldn't he be more known to us 'prisoners' if he is the son of the king?

However, my mind is not held by these wandering thoughts for long, as the worsening pain in my wrists suddenly comes back to my attention. For what must be the fifth time, my scream resonates through the courtyard, snapping everyone's heads back to me.

"FATHER!" He yells louder.

This time he gains his father's full attention, except the king's gaze is full of complete and utter hatred that sends fear sparking through every part of me. Yet, the young prince seems completely unfazed by it. Instead, he pushes out his chest a little more and narrows his eyes at the intimidating king in front of him.

However, after a few lengthened moments of intense staring, the king finally sighs in defeat.

"Whatever you wish son. Just give me a warning next time before you make a scene at one of the detentions" he says lightly, laughing towards the end.

The surrounding nobles immediately start laughing with him to avoid the obvious awkwardness hanging in the air. However, the Prince's gaze remains narrowed and lethal, not wavering for a second from his father.

Then when the laughter finally dies down, I am struggling to hold in my screams of pain. That is until one of the guards finally walks over and wipes the silver off my skin. There are vicious red marks scoring my upper arms, however, they are quickly healed. But the problem is, they healed way too quickly. Only a royal does that.

Quickly realising that the fear that is still inside of me is making me shift again, I start thrashing against the bars, desperately trying to get out.

"Calm your claws, I'm coming" one of the guards mumbles before walking over to me with a set of keys jingling in his hands.

It seems like a century until he has at least my wrists unlocked, then unable to wait until he could unlock my ankles, I rip the metal bindings straight out of the board and leap down. Not waiting to see the surprised expressions of the crowd, I immediately sprint out of the courtyard and into the woods, knowing that there is nothing that will be able to stop my eyes from glowing. I'm just hoping that I don't shift. Then someone is sure to find out.

Luke's POV

That has to be one of the strangest things I have ever seen. No vampire has ever shown mercy to us before. Let alone the prince. I can't help but think that it was because of how pretty she is. I mean, even I was holding myself back from ripping the guards heads off after they poured that god awful stuff on her skin.

Yet, what seemed to anger me the most- even though I had no control over the reaction whatsoever- was when Emma had been staring at the young prince. I mean seriously, what's so amazing about that murderous, spoilt brat. His father destroyed the majority of our people and left the remaining in enslavement camps! What could the girl see in him?!

However, I didn't really get the chance to ask since as soon as she pried her restraints off the very board they were attached to-which surprised even me- she bolted out of the courtyard. For a moment I had considered not following her, but that moment was not very brief since I found myself quickly chasing after her, whilst keeping my distance to avoid her seeing me.

For some reason, I'd rather not have her think I'm stalking her.

Emma's POV

The fear hits me continuously in waves of pain that leaves me feeling drained of warmth and joy. Shivers radiate down my spine until I feel as though I am quaking, not able to control my body anymore.
Then the convulsing suddenly stops originating from my fear and starts to come from deep inside me. From the beginning of my shift.

In the following moments, my body is only able to take so much until I finally shift. My paws spring out from each side of me and I immediately fall onto all fours. Then for the first time in my life, my eyes light up with a piercing royal blue that edges the corners of my vision.

I am now able to see everything with a sharper sight that amplifies all my senses. However, the first thing that catches my attention is an unfamiliar scent, one that clings to my nose, causing my fear to spark alight once more. Except this time, my fear is laced with aggression towards the foreign and possibly deadly presence.

Spinning around with incredible speed I turn to face the being that captured my attention. However, my aggression is swiftly deflated when I see that the presence that had sparked my fear was none other than the guy who was sitting next to me in line. I don't even know his name, yet in that one moment, he is able to discover my deepest secret. How is that fair?

With my fear long gone, I swiftly shift back into my human form and meet his wide-eyed gaze with one of my own.

"You're- You're her aren't you? You're the Princess."

For a second I consider denying it, but realising that he has seen everything, I simply nod, looking down to my feet. I hear him walk over to me and then soon after feel his hands being placed on my shoulders.

"Emma, where have you been? Why did you let this happen to us?"

His questions astounds me at first until I realise that I am responsible for letting these people become the insignificant race that they have been degraded to.

"It's my fault, isn't it. It's my fault that we are treated like this, how we're all being picked off one by one."

He sighs.

"We can never really know. But what matters now is that you're here."

I finally look up to meet his gaze and look at him with a confused expression painted on my face.

"What do you mean?"

"Emma" he starts, "I'm going to help you take down the vampires and avenge your family."

Ohhhhh cliffhanger soz
